Biography
Tom Hunkele, who enters his 25th NFL season and 11th overall with the Philadelphia Eagles, was promoted to vice president of sports medicine/head athletic trainer during the 2021 offseason after rejoining the team as director of sports medicine/head athletic trainer in 2020.
Prior to rejoining the Eagles, Hunkele spent 14 seasons (2006-19) with the Minnesota Vikings as coordinator of rehabilitation/assistant athletic trainer. During his time with the Vikings, Hunkele was recognized as the 2019 Tim Davey Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year for the NFC and was also a part of a Minnesota athletic training staff that was honored by its peers as the 2017 Athletic Training Staff of the Year.
Hunkele originally worked with the NovaCare Rehabilitation staff in Philadelphia from 2000-05, serving as a physical therapist in the offseason and as an assistant athletic trainer throughout the season.
A native of Reading, PA, Hunkele graduated from Duquesne University with a bachelor's degree in athletic training in 1998. He remained at the school to earn his master's in physical therapy while working as a graduate assistant to the head athletic trainer.
Hunkele resides in Wayne, PA, with his wife, Rachel, and their two children, Zara and Zoe.
