Biography

Max Gruder was named the Philadelphia Eagles' director of pro scouting during the 2022 offseason. He originally joined the team as the assistant director of pro scouting in 2019.

Prior to joining the Eagles scouting department, Gruder spent the previous six seasons with the Miami Dolphins (2013-18). Gruder joined the Dolphins in 2013 as an assistant in the scouting department and was promoted to a pro scout in 2014. During his time with the Dolphins, Gruder monitored personnel moves throughout the NFL, evaluated pro players, managed player databases, and served as an advance scout for Dolphins' opponents.

Before beginning his professional career in scouting, Gruder enjoyed a four-year collegiate playing career as a linebacker for the University of Pittsburgh. Gruder played in 52 games (39 starts) for the Panthers and totaled 296 tackles, one sack and one interception. He was named second-team All-Big East as a senior after leading the defense with a career-high 116 tackles.

In 2012, following his college career, Gruder signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent and participated in the team's training camp and preseason.

A business major at Pittsburgh, Gruder was twice named to the Big East All-Academic team.
