Ryan Mahaffey was hired by the Philadelphia Eagles as the team's run game coordinator/tight ends coach during the 2026 offseason.
Prior to the Eagles, Mahaffey held a five-year stint with the Green Bay Packers serving as the wide receivers coach (2024-25), assistant offensive line coach (2022-23) and offensive quality control coach (2021).
In 2025, Mahaffey mentored a young wide receiver core that featured Romeo Doubs, who led the Packers with a career-high 724 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 55 catches (13.2 avg.). In addition, Christian Watson finished with the second-highest receiving average (17.5) in the NFL (min. 25 receptions), hauling in 35 passes for 611 yards and six touchdowns.
During his first season mentoring Green Bay's wide receivers in 2024, Mahaffey guided Jayden Reed to a career-high 857 receiving yards with six touchdowns on 55 catches (15.6 avg.), ranking second in the league with a 137.5 passer rating when targeted. Watson, who logged a career-high 620 yards, recorded the second-most yards per reception (career-high 21.4 — best mark by a Packer since 1984) in the NFL (min. 25 receptions).
As the Packers' assistant offensive line coach from 2022-23, Mahaffey contributed to a unit that tied for fourth in the NFL in fewest sacks allowed (62) and ranked fifth in sack percentage (5.1 pct.).
In 2023, Green Bay limited opponents to the third-fewest sacks (30) in the regular season and did not allow a sack in consecutive playoff games for the first time in Packers history. In 2022, Mahaffey helped guard Elgton Jenkins earn Pro Bowl honors as the offensive line paved the way for Aaron Jones to lead the league in yards per carry (5.3) (min. 200 attempts).
Entering the NFL coaching ranks with Green Bay in 2021, Mahaffey contributed to a unit that ranked in the top 10 in passing offense (eighth, 253.8 ypg), total offense (10th, 365.6 ypg) and points per game (10th, 26.5).
Before he joined the Packers, Mahaffey was the offensive coordinator at Northern Iowa from 2019-20. In 2019, the Panthers made an FCS quarterfinals appearance after finishing second in the Mountain Valley Football Conference and producing a school-record-tying eight home wins.
From 2017-18, Mahaffey worked as the tight ends coach at Western Kentucky. Under his tutelage, Deon Yelder notched 688 yards and seven touchdowns on 52 catches (13.2 avg.), earning a Senior Bowl invitation.
In 2016, Mahaffey served as Northern Iowa's co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach. He guided three players to All-MVFC honors, including Daurice Fountain (fifth-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2018).
Mahaffey spent the 2014-15 seasons as a graduate assistant at Notre Dame, where he spent time with wide receiver Will Fuller (selected by the Houston Texans with the 21st-overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft).
Mahaffey originally began his coaching career in 2013 as a recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach at Northern Iowa.
Prior to his coaching career, Mahaffey played fullback for the Baltimore Ravens (2011), Indianapolis Colts (2011) and Miami Dolphins (2012). He was signed by the Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2011.
A two-time second-team All-MVFC selection as a tight end and fullback at Northern Iowa (2007-10), Mahaffey totaled 28 catches for 251 yards and six touchdowns in 51 career games (43 starts) at the collegiate level.
Mahaffey and his wife, Molly, have two sons, Trace and Sterling, and a daughter, Jordan (JoJo).
