Allen Smith enters his first year with the Philadelphia Eagles after being hired as a defensive assistant during the 2026 offseason.
Smith spent the 2025 campaign as the defensive line coach at Army. Under his guidance, Jack Bousum earned third-team all-conference honors after tying for the team lead in tackles for loss (eight) and sacks (4.5).
Before his stint at Army, Smith served as the defensive consultant at Tulane in 2024 where he helped the Green Wave win nine games for the third consecutive season and make an appearance in the American Athletic Conference Championship game.
Previously as the defensive line coach at Georgia State from 2023-24, he guided a unit that helped the program increase their wins by four from the previous year in 2022.
In 2021, Smith was the assistant defensive line coach for the Houston Texans. That season, he contributed to the growth of Jonathan Greenard, who ranked first on the team with a then-career-high eight sacks.
From 2018-20, Smith coached the defensive line at Wofford. In 2020, Smith's unit supported a defense that paced the Southern Conference in sacks. He also facilitated the growth of third-team All-American Miles Brown during the 2018 campaign en route to signing with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in 2019. Smith also worked closely in the development of defensive end Michael Mason, a Freshman All-America selection who led the Terriers in tackles for loss (10.5) and sacks (7.5) before signing with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent. In 2018, Smith's group helped the team lead the conference in scoring defense, total defense and rushing defense.
Prior to his three-year tenure at Wofford, Smith tutored the defensive line at the Virginia Military Institute in 2017 after spending one season as a defensive operations assistant at Duke in 2016.
As a defensive graduate assistant at Appalachian State in 2015, he worked with Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year Ronald Blair, who led the team in tackles for loss (19) and sacks (7.5) before being selected in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Smith began his coaching career in 2014 at Calhoun County High School in St. Matthew, SC, as the special teams coordinator, also coaching the outside linebackers and halfbacks for the Saints.
Smith was a four-year letterwinner as a defensive linemen at Wofford (2009-12). During his career, the Terriers clinched four straight FCS playoff berths and captured two conference titles (2010 and 2012).
Smith graduated from Wofford with a degree in business economics. He and his wife Joy, have two daughters, Harleigh and Emori.
