Third Quarter Recap: Eagles Hold Slight Lead Over Panthers

With just one quarter to go, the Eagles lead Panthers 21-16.

The defense notched its second interception of the night when Patrick Robinson dove for a bobbled pass from Cam Newton which placed the Eagles inside the red zone. Tight end Zach Ertz picked up his second touchdown of the night on a 17-yard feed from quarterback Carson Wentz. LeGarrette Blount converted on a two-point conversion. The Panthers and Eagles traded field goals with Graham Gano hitting two and Jake Elliott connecting on one. The Eagles will begin the fourth with the ball at the Carolina 24-yard line.

Injury Update: Linebacker Jordan Hicks is out for the rest of the game with an ankle injury. Defensive end Brandon Graham headed to the locker room with an unknown injury.

Fumble On Opening Drive

After the Eagles completed two straight first downs, Carson Wentz was stripped by defensive end Julius Peppers on first down at the Panthers' 35 yard-line. The ball was recovered at the Carolina 48 by Panthers' defensive tackle Kawann Short.

Elliott Nails 50-Yarder

Jake Elliott continued his strong season kicking the ball. Elliott boomed home a 50-yarder to put the Eagles up 3-0 with seven minutes remaining in the quarter.

Mills Hit With Pass Interference

On second-and-10 from the Carolina 39, cornerback Jalen Mills was called for pass interference on Panthers' receiver Curtis Samuel. The play drew 21 yards and placed the Panthers at the Philadelphia 40.

Gano Evens the Score

After the Eagles' defense got a stop on third-and-2, Panthers kicker Graham Gano connected on a 39-yard field goal to even the score up at 3-3 with two minutes remaining.

The Panthers took a 10-3 lead after Newton rushed up the middle beating a few Eagles for a 16-yard touchdown early in the second quarter.

Douglas Picks Off Newton

Rookie cornerback Rasul Douglas picked off Newton at the Carolina 19 and returned it 7 yards to the 12-yard line. It was Cox's pressure that forced Newton into throwing a deflected pass. The interception was Douglas's second on the season.

Ertz Gives Eagles First TD

Zach Ertz came through on a 1-yard touchdown score delivered by Wentz on third-and-goal. The score was Ertz's third touchdown on the year and the Eagles' first of the night. The play evened up the score at 10-10 with just over two minutes to go.

Cox And Graham Team Up For Sack

With under a minute to go, Cox and defensive end Brandon Graham sacked Newton for a loss of 7 yards. The big play took the Panthers out of field goal range before the half.

Robinson Falls On Interception

On the Panthers' opening drive of the half, Jonathan Stewart bobbled a wide open pass from Cam Newton that landed into the leaping arms of Patrick Robinson for an interception. The play gave the Eagles the ball at the Carolina 17.

Ertz Pulls In Second TD Of The Night

On second-down Wentz hit Ertz for a 17-yard touchdown up the middle. On the extra point, the Panthers were called for an illegal formation penalty and head coach Doug Pederson elected to go for the two-point conversion. Blount piled his way into the end zone which gave the Eagles an 18-10 lead.

Mills Picks Up Second Pass Interference Call

On second-and-10 at the Carolina 35, Mills was called for pass interference for the second time of the night. Samuel drew the call again on Mills but this time for a 40-yard pickup that placed the Panthers at the Philadelphia 25.

Panthers, Eagles Trade Field Goals

Gano connected on a 20-yard field goal to shrink the gap 18-13. On the Eagles next drive, Elliott nailed his second field goal of the game, this time from 48-yards. The score pushed the Eagles lead back to eight at 21-13 with just over eight minutes to go. Later, Gano would knock in another field goal from 48 yards out to narrow the gap again to 21-16.
