Game Vs. Dolphins: Locker Room Defense

Defensive End Trent Cole

On his performance today: "I was just being focused. I was real focused coming up. I mean the D-line totally, the whole defense, they were just getting out there. I mean you can't ask for a better team tonight. It was just a great game from the offense and defense. You had guys blitzing in, making sacks. It was a different team out there, you know. It was a different team than the last two weeks."

On why the team played better now: "We got a chip on our shoulder, you know. We're still in the hunt. We know what we got to do. We have been in situations like this. One notch down from this, I mean, we've been in bad situations throughout past years and we always stay strong. It's Eagles football. We all stray strong until the end."

On the rookie's impact in today's game and how it feels to get contributions from them: "I mean we got a lot of talent, you know. Everyone knows we have a lot of talent. Guys just get their opportunities, and guys did. They stepped up today, and they showed their talent."

On what kind of Eagles defense can be expected going forward: "Same as today. We're going to take this and go to the next week with it."

On the Eagles still being alive for the playoffs: "Yeah, I mean again, it's been pretty tough man. The games we been losing, it's just been awful. We've been losing by so small, you know. We had to find that one, just that one little niche to just get it going. The guys just stepped it up today. We had big bad… just everybody back. It was just a great time out there. Our guys are having fun, back to where they are supposed to be."

Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha

On playing against rival Brandon Marshall: "Not bad, I didn't really get to check him as much today but he is a great player."

On being on the road and pulling off a victory: "It feels good. I think we are in a place where we want to be and we have an opportunity to do some things. A lot has to happen but we are still excited about it.

On if turnovers were needed to win the game: "Yeah I think Juan (Castillo) did a really great job today with the plays that he was calling…it helped us. We had some turnovers, had some sacks...it was exactly what we needed."

Defensive End Jason Babin

On the effort from the Eagles defensive line: "You know what? It's almost, if you would said ahead of time what we were going to do on third down, short, fourth and short, everyone would have said 'you're crazy.' I'm pretty sure they were close to being undefeated on third and short and fourth and short this season. I mean, I don't know how many times we stopped them, but that's almost unfathomable. I wouldn't have guessed that."

On what helped the Eagles be successful in today's game: "We went out, played hard. The thing is, when we have all of our guys at the right spot, doing the right thing, proper technique; that's what we get. We just got to be harder on ourselves during practice and during the week to do that. Not let up, and this is what will happen."

On his statement that he wanted quarterbacks to be afraid of the Philadelphia Eagles pass rush earlier in the week: "I believe we helped our cause. The thing about getting to the quarterback; it's a team thing, it's cumulative. You know the offense puts points on the board, we get defeated. So really, it's a lot of moving parts, we just have to do that one little thing."

On if the Eagles threw more things at the quarterback today: "No. But we had some new blitzes and blitzes that everybody bought into and defense was really excited about. I think it showed up. When we ran them, we ran them with ferocity. I think everybody is pleased with how we blitzed, how we got to the quarterback. The way we stopped the run, the third and short, the fourth and short. So I'm sure there's corrections, but we're feeling good about it."

On creating more turnovers by possibly confusing the offense: "We got after them with four guys and we were successful. We blitzed and we were successful.  So when you're clicking like that, you know you can call plays like that and call it a day."

On his personal stats and getting 15 sacks so far this season, his career high and fourth highest ever by an Eagles player: "It lets me know that those plays probably helped that drive. You now when you're sacked, that's usually a drive killer, which percentages that really affect that outcome. So if that helps the Eagles win, then I'm happy to do it."

On people saying his statistics were a fluke, and then getting great stats two years in a row: "You know some of those people that weren't believers before, and then were on the fence, I'm sure they're believers now, so there's no reason to talk bad about them. They know who they are."

Strong Safety Kurt Coleman

On the pressure of Miami's quarterbacks: "The d-line did phenomenal. I think the key to our success when we have tight coverage is that the defensive line is able to get the quarterback relentlessly. A lot of pressure is on us and I think we like it. This game, the challenge was on us. We needed to be able to matchup with Brandon Marshall and a slew of wide receivers and I thought we did a great job."

On big plays made by the Eagles defense: "It was big. More than the turnovers was when we turned the ball over. When we had the blocked punt, our defense stuck down and kept coming after them. The pressure was on them (the Dolphins offense) the whole game. That's the way it should be every week."

On the multiple short-yardage stops: "It was great. The d-line and the linebackers filled their holes. They didn't give up a yard and it was a beautiful thing. It's a beautiful thing when our defense can get off on a third down and a fourth down."

On the growth of the defense: "We're continually getting better; we're growing. I think as the weeks go on, we're understanding each other more, we're understanding this defense more and we're playing together. We're playing as a family. Regardless of whether we win or lose, we're going to go out as a family. I think we really displayed a lot of attitude throughout the whole game."

On his interception of Matt Moore: "I was playing a d-path and they brought (I don't know who it was) from the opposite side and I could just see Matt (Moore) staring him down. As the ball began rising I said 'I'm going to go up and get this thing.' God blessed me but I'll try to get in the end zone next time."

On the multiple takeaways by the defense: "We have the capability to play with anybody when we're doing our assignments and not making mistakes and beating ourselves up. Whether it was stopping the run or stopping the deep pass, our defense stepped up to the challenge. The d-line did a great job of being able to hold their gaps and stop any type of pressure. He (Matt Moore) was feeling it the whole day. He was getting the ball out quick and that's what we need every week."

On being alive in the NFC playoff race: "We're alive but with the pressure, we're not going to let off. We have to get better. Next week is another win or we're out. Everything we do is about us. It's not about anything else. It's about us and we need to take care of our business first."

Linebacker Casey Matthews

On his second chance starting as a rookie: "I felt pretty good on my performance. I mean obviously you know a little rusty but you can always learn from it. But it was just fun getting back out there and being on the field helping my team win. It was a good feeling to be back out there."

On getting his first sack: "It felt pretty good. I saw the play, nobody came off on me. It definitely felt great. Just getting up and knowing he didn't throw the ball it was the best feeling and everyone celebrating."

On what turned things around for them in the second quarter: "I think it was out defensive lineman. They had a total 10 sacks today I mean they supplied pressure. I mean even when we weren't even blitzing. They're great at rushing the passer and they forced the quarterback to make bad decisions. I think attacking the quarterback was the biggest part."

On if he thought he would get a second chance this year: "It's a long season I knew I would get back out there I just didn't know when. But again it was just a great feeling to get back out there."

On if it would be beneficial to have started later in the season rather than as soon as he did:  "It definitely could have helped. I still had an opportunity. But just having to learn on the fly and to just keep on learning through camp and seemed like it didn't stop. After week three when (Brian) Rolle was hurting I really got an opportunity to just relearn the defense and stuff. But you just have to take advantage of the opportunity."

Linebacker Brian Rolle

On how it feels to come back home to Florida and win: "It feels real good, I was talking to Brian Hartline earlier, a guy I played with at Ohio State, telling him it's kinda crazy that I loved the Dolphins and actually getting to play against them.  It was tremendous, and getting the W on top of that, we're on our way to regenerate the season and get to where we need to be."

On where a performance like this from the defense had been: "With us it's there whenever we want it. Sometimes we come out we come out with enthusiasm but we look lost, but when we come out there like we did today and put it all together, where we want to do it, that's what gets you a W."

On putting it all together defensively: "It's all our mindset, it's not defensive schemes, offensive schemes, special team schemes, it's all in the mindset. We had nothing to lose, that's our mentality. Go out and lay it all on the line. There were some penalties in the game that we want to take back, but in the end of the day we laid it all on the line and got a W. "

On the young guys on defense becoming more comfortable: "Most definitely, Coach (Andy) Reid and all the other defensive coaches put an emphasis on making plays. I think the young guys have embraced the role and realized that it can't always be the older guys, they look to us to make plays just as well, that's why we are where we are. When the opportunity came, me, Casey and the other guys did our job."

Cornerback Asante Samuel

On his fumble recovery: "I was surprised; it was an opportunity to make a big play for my team and seize the moment."

On the defense setting up scores for the offense: "It's a team effort, that's why they call it a team, if the offense is struggling a little bit, the defense has to pick it up."

On if he questions himself on why the defense can't perform this well each week: "You know we have to. If we play this well and get a victory, we hold the offense to minimum yards.  We get a touchdown from a defensive play, it's something we want to feed off of and try to do it again."

On returning to South Florida: "Well I had to give about 100 tickets away, I don't get many balls thrown my way these days, but the fumble was an opportunity to get the ball, the team needed a little energy and I was there to provide the energy."

On the defense stepping it up: "We've been saying this is the start of our new season, and we knew we had a good matchup coming in here. We knew it was going to be a good fight, but we made the plays to win and that's what it's about."
