Game Vs. Cardinals: Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt

Opening statement: "Well, we exercised a lot of demons today—winning on the east coast, stopping them on the last drive defensively, being able to drive down and score offensively—all the things that we haven't been able to do, seems like we were able to do it today. I give a lot of credit to our players and our team for believing in what we were doing. That's a very good football team, I don't care what you say about them, they got a lot of talented football players on there. Our defense held us in there the first half, played their butts off. And then I got to give credit to our offense and even to [QB] John [Skelton], after fighting back after turning the ball over for a touchdown. There's a lot of positive things to build on. I still think it goes back to our last game when were able to win it at the end and the confidence that our guys have in what we're trying to do. We're not anywhere near being perfect, but we hung together today and had some big strides."

On late game wins back to back: "Gives you confidence, believe in what you can do. We've had four or five games this year  already where this didn't happen and that really wears on you and it's tough. But we knew that we were close because we were in those games. We had to find a way to make plays at the end and that's what we've done the last two weeks. We got a lot of work to do. There's a lot of things we have to clean up, we made a number of mistakes, but if your guys believe in what you're doing and they work the way they've been working, you can build off of what's happened for us the last two weeks."

On fourth quarter decisions not to challenge: "It wasn't a clear view on the challenge. The fourth down where it was, I think it was a little over three minutes left, we had a good play. I felt like we got them bead where they were going to come on man coverage and it would give us a shot at [RB] LaRod [Stephens-Howling]. It's a tough throw and John made a very good throw, but we felt like we had a bead on that. We missed one to [WR] Larry [Fitzgerald] just a little bit earlier where we had him on a little slant and go because of what they were playing. So we felt in that situation, where it was, we had to take our shot and somebody make a play and they did. And the one to Larry we talked about it, but whenever you have a long play like that and the clock's running, you got to get a play called. I could have called a timeout, but in talking to the guys upstairs, they said there was not a clear picture of it. So we felt like at that time, from a management standpoint, I didn't think we would go backwards like we did, but it did take some more time off the clock."

On the mindset after K Jay Feely's two missed field goals: "Well there was no question there was a feel of missed opportunity, but our guys didn't get down. Our defense continued to play. We made a couple of plays offensively, but it's just frustrating when you're in a battle against a team like this on the road, east coast, one o'clock game, and you have opportunities to get points, you can't miss those. We did that against Seattle this year and it cost us the game, but maybe that shows we've grown a little bit because we were able to overcome it."

On Larry Fitzgerald's performance late in the game: "I'll tell you what, we missed him on a couple other ones too. We had him on a post there where we just threw it in front of him, it would have been a big play as well. But I said this in training camp, but whenever you see Larry and his head goes back like that when he's tracking the ball, like that long one at the end, he comes down with those balls. He's unbelievable at making those catches, but it was good to get Larry the ball and have him make those plays for us today. He ignited us on that one where he made that catch—great catch—off the guy and held on to it. We're going to continue to move him to different spots and try to get him the ball and it certainly paid off for us."

On QB John Skelton's missed opportunities as a young quarterback: "Well the one he missed for the interception there at the end where they got three points, that was great by our defense holding them to three points and it made a difference in the game. He had the guy wide open and he was going to the right spot, he just overthrew it. I got to tell you, he threw an interception for a touchdown, he threw that interception, which gave them ten points, but the guy came back and hung in there and made some plays, made some good throws. To make the throws that he made at the end of the game after going through that, it just shows he's got something. He's a tough young kid."

On Skelton after his missed opportunities: "He was mad, he was upset. He was upset when he missed a couple of things. But you know what, he's calm. He comes back, he's business, we talk about it, and then I say, 'John are you okay?' and he says, 'I'm fine. I'm ready to go.' So he's got that look that he's calm, it shows in his demeanor on the field. Like I said, we missed a number of things today where we had opportunities. They brought a lot of pressure and some of those spots and some of those sites, we didn't make great throws on. He overthrew [TE] Jeff King on one where we had potentially a big play. So those are things you still got to work with but you got to understand, this is what, his six start and he's had no offseason and not a real training camp. So you got to give him compliment on how he's worked."

On if Skelton is making the case to be the starting quarterback: "You know, I think I'll have to look at this tape and just see where we are. Right now, we haven't won on the east coast in forever, so I'm just going to enjoy this. We'll worry about that later. But you know what, [QB] Kevin [Kolb's] done a good job for us this year as well. Both guys have had things go squirrely in those games, so I'm not going to say that's the case."

On how things change defensively when WR DeSean Jackson is not in the game: "Obviously it doesn't do us any damage. The guy's a good football player, he's a threat, somebody you have to worry about. To be honest with you, I'm happy that he wasn't playing."

On if he thought Fitzgerald would come down with the deep pass: "Yes, I've see him make hundreds of those catches in practice. He has got an unbelievable knack of tracking the ball that way and making those catches. He did it in training camp a number of times this year. In fact, I was talking to Kevin about it and I just said whenever that head goes back like that, I said, he comes down with the football. So yeah, I thought he was going to catch it."

On Skelton's deep throw to Fitzgerald: "He knew what was going on though, he knew it was pressure. We had the guy underneath open, but I'm not going to fault John for throwing it."

On the touchdown pass to WR Early Doucet: "It's been a good play for us. We've scored with that scheme a couple of times, we put different guys in different spots. We knew Larry driving to the flat was going to expand the coverage and we'd have a chance with Early going right down the seam for the a quick throw. It's something you got to work on because you got to get the timing of it. And then Larry comes back underneath if he doesn't throw it to him. The only thing you worry about there is pressure and they had been pressuring us a lot down there, so we were prepared either way. They gave us coverage and we felt the play was going to be good."

On the defense's performance: "Well they're making progress, there's no question. This is the number one offense in the league I think, or pretty close to it. They are a scary bunch and they move the ball down the field. And our guys did an unbelievable job today on them. It just goes to show you…I mean we had guys all over the place making plays—[SS] Adrian [Wilson], [CB] Michael Adams, [LB] Daryl [Washington] , [DE] Calais [Campbell], [DT Darrell] Dockett—I mean you just keep naming the guys that make plays. It was good to see [CB] A.J. [Jefferson] get that interception at the end, that helped. [CB] Patrick [Peterson] was all over the place. I mean that's team defense. We haven't been in this thing very long with that group, it really seems like they're starting to get it."

On if he still feels like they are in this: "I'm not giving up. I'm not giving up. If we play like we played the last two weeks, we got a chance."
