The final preseason game wasn't the strongest showing for the Eagles' reserves as they finished 2-2 in the preseason after a 16-10 loss against the Jets. The Eagles were held scoreless during the second and third quarters with neither side able to establish much on offense. The game saw a total of 19 punts and a pair of Eagles turnovers.

The Jets scored first on a 28-yard field goal by Chandler Catanzaro with 4:33 to go in the first quarter. The Eagles, however, returned the favor early in the second quarter. Wide receiver Marcus Johnson drew a pass interference call on Jets cornerback Juston Burris which helped set up a Caleb Sturgis 33-yard kick that tied the game at 3-3.

Midway through the second, Jets backup quarterback Christian Hackenberg hit tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins in the back of the end zone for a 12-yard touchdown which gave the Jets a 10-3 lead. The Eagles' offensive struggles continued in the second quarter when Matt McGloin was strip-sacked by Jets defensive tackle Kony Ealy at the Philadelphia 43-yard line. The ball was recovered by Jets Patrick Gamble at the Philadelphia 37-yard line with just under eight minutes to go in the half. Later, rookie defensive tackle Elijah Qualls came away with a sack on third-and-goal which forced a Jets field goal attempt. Kicker Ross Martin made it a 13-3 deficit at the half after he banged home a 27-yarder.

Early in the third, defensive end Alex McCalister made his presence known when he brought down Hackenberg for a huge loss of 11 yards which forced a Jets to punt from their own 25-yard line. A few minutes later, rookie wide receiver Mack Hollins made the special teams play of the night after an Eagles punt when he dove for a loose ball and knocked it away from rolling into the end zone which would have resulted in a touchback. Instead, the ball was marked down at the New York 5-yard line.

Unfortunately, the Eagles ended the third on a relatively low note. A Dane Evans pass intended for wide receiver Bryce Treggs was intercepted by Jets cornerback Derrick Jones at the Philadelphia 19-yard line, leading to a Jets field goal making the score 16-3.

The Eagles finally found the end zone after Evans and Johnson connected on a 41-yard catch-and-run touchdown which made the tally 16-10 in favor of the Jets. The Birds kept hope alive after Hackenberg bungled a snap that was recovered by linebacker Christian Tago at the Philadelphia 40-yard line at the two-minute warning. A final second, fourth-down attempt from Evans to Treggs zipped to the Treggs' right, resulting in a turnover on downs and sealed the victory for the Jets.

The Eagles will be back in action September 10 against Washington in the regular-season opener.

The Philadelphia Eagles fell to the New York Jets, 16-10, at MetLife Stadium for their final preseason game of 2017.
