The Eagles added to their pass rush arsenal on Friday afternoon, signing veteran defensive end Za'Darius Smith. To make room, fullback Ben VanSumeren was placed on Injured Reserve. VanSumeren suffered a knee injury on the opening kickoff of Thursday night's win.

The 32-year-old Smith is entering his 11th NFL season and is a three-time Pro Bowl selection — twice with the Packers and most recently in 2022 with the Vikings. He was also a second-team All-Pro with the Packers in 2020. Smith started last season with the Browns before he was traded to the Lions. He finished the year with nine sacks.

Since making his Lions debut in Week 11, he played at least 30 snaps in all but one of the eight regular-season games. In those eight games, he ranked fourth in the league with 34 QB pressures and fifth in QB pressure rate (16.7 percent, min. 150 pass rushes, Next Gen Stats).

Smith (6-foot-4, 275 pounds) has three double-digit sack campaigns, including a career-high 13.5 in 2019. Playing for five different teams before the Eagles, Smith has proven he can produce in a variety of schemes and situations.

Smith brings veteran experience and depth to an edge room that's led by third-year player Nolan Smith and second-year pro Jalyx Hunt. Za'Darius Smith joins the two starters, along with Joshua Uche, Ogbo Okoronkwo, and Azeez Ojulari.

Originally a fourth-round pick of the Ravens out of Kentucky, Za'Darius Smith has 69 career sacks, 173 QB hits, 85 tackles for loss, and 10 forced fumbles in 140 regular-season games (96 starts). He has been a contributor to two No. 1-ranked defenses in his career. – Written by Matt Ryan

Eagles fans packed the lots early and stayed late after a 63-minute weather delay against the Cowboys.
