Teammates Thrilled For Vick

Quarterback Michael Vick spoke on Tuesday about his new six-year contract which ensures that the he will be an Eagle for the prime years remaining in his career. After hearing about the contract, many of Vick's teammates expressed their excitement about the Pro Bowl quarterback's future with the team.

"It really shows how much confidence they have in Mike, and how much leadership he's shown," said third-year rusher LeSean McCoy. "With this expression of their support, the franchise is showing that the players, coaches and everybody is behind him 100 percent."

Being the unquestioned leader of such a young football team has empowered the 10-year veteran. Young players on this team, especially on the offensive side of the ball, look up to Vick as an example of what hard work and determination can produce.

"He definitely deserves it," said fellow quarterback Vince Young. "He's a good guy, a hard worker, and the team loves him. Everybody loves him. He's doing everything he needs to do to be a leader on this team and to be a quarterback here."

Cornerback Asante Samuel echoed that sentiment.

"I'm very happy for him," Samuel said. "He's come a long way, and he's definitely deserving of it. He works hard and he's a true professional."

Vick said during his press conference that the new contract wouldn't temper his desire to be the best that he could be. He knows what it took to get to this point, and money will not replace his desire to win a championship.

"That one common goal is to win the Super Bowl," Vick said. "That's why we play. As a competitor, I don't feel like my career would be complete without winning one."

His friend and teammate Jason Avant spoke to Vick's commitment to the team.

"My prayer is for Mike to continue to be able to continue what he's been doing," Avant said. "I would like to see him remain humble, and remember those who stuck with him when he was at his lowest point. I know he's going to do that, and I'm excited for him."
