Rumor Mill: Dolphins Trade Back On?

Rumor Mill is an aggregation of Eagles-related reports, rumors and wild speculation. The team does not endorse these items.

According to Byron Maxwell's agent, the cornerback has cleared his physical with the Dolphins' medical staff and the reported trade between the Eagles and Dolphins will go through.

Reports indicate that there was some concern over Maxwell's shoulder, but those concerns have apparently been silenced after a thorough evaluation.

According to multiple reports, the reported trade involving Byron Maxwell and Kiko Alonso going to the Miami Dolphins has hit a snag.

According to NFL Network's Albert Breer, the trade could still very well happen, though the compensation that the Eagles would get in return could change. Some reports speculated that the Eagles and Dolphins would swap first-round picks, moving the Eagles to eighth-overall selection.

According to multiple reports, including one from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Eagles and Dolphins have agreed to a deal that will send Maxwell and Kiko Alonso to Miami in exchange for draft pick compensation.

Alonso was also aquired at this time last season in a deal that sent LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills. Alonso intercepted Matt Ryan in his first game as an Eagle, but a knee injury against the Cowboys in Week 2 caused him to sit out until early November.

If indeed a deal has been struck, nothing can be officially announced until the start of the new league year, which is Wednesday, March 9 at 4 PM. Stay tuned to PhiladelphiaEagles.com for any breaking news.

UPDATED: March 7, 4:40 PM

On Monday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Eagles were involved in trade talks with the Miami Dolphins centering on cornerback Byron Maxwell.

Maxwell signed a six-year contract with the Eagles almost exactly a year ago after spending the first four years of his NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks. Maxwell started 14 games for the Eagles in 2015. After a shaky start against Julio Jones and the Atlanta Falcons, Maxwell rebounded to have a nice season. He intercepted two passes, tying his single-season best.

There haven't been any reports about what the Dolphins would send to the Eagles in exchange for Maxwell, but a deal would have a sizable impact on the Eagles' salary cap. There are also rumors that the Dolphins are expected to release corner Brent Grimes, who reportedly has an identical cap hit to Maxwell.
