Real Madrid Tops Celtic, 2-0

On Saturday afternoon, Lincoln Financial Field once again hosted a well-played soccer match between two of the top teams in world football. This time, it was Spanish champion Real Madrid posting a 2-0 victory over Scottish champion Celtic in front of more than 34,000 area soccer fans.

Both teams went with loaded lineups in the first half of the World Football Challenge 2012 presented by Herbalife. Real Madrid received sparkling play from Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos but it was Jose Callejon, who scored off an assist from Gonzalo Higuain in the 22nd minute.

Celtic arrived with three wins already this month - 2-1 and 2-0 UEFA Champions League wins over Finland's Helsingin Jalkapalloklub and a 1-0 Scottish Premier League victory over Aberdeen. But, the talented team from Glasgow was unable to match up against Los Blancos' speed advantage and superior skills.

Real Madrid, which arrived with three WFC 2012 wins this month - 5-1 over the Los Angeles Galaxy, 2-1 over Mexico's Santos Laguna and 5-1 over Italy's AC Milan - went ahead 2-0 in the 67th minute when Karim Benzema sent a shot to the far left corner of the net. The Spanish side finished with an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal.
