Brian Westbrook suffered a rib contusion on the opening drive of Sunday's 23-17 loss to the Washington Redskins.
Westbrook, who missed last Sunday's game against Chicago with an ankle injury, had 39 total yards on the opening drive. Westbrook capped off the drive with a 9-yard touchdown run up the middle to put the Eagles ahead 7-0. After the touchdown, Westbrook came to the sidelines pointing to his ribs. The trainers worked on Westbrook and took him into the locker room for further evaluation.
Early in the second quarter, Westbrook returned. Westbrook finished with 33 rushing yards and 51 receiving yards on six carries. The Eagles tried to force Westbrook the ball time after time again. In the closing minutes, the Eagles had the ball at the Redskins' 2-yard line and faced a third-and-one. There was some miscommunication at the line, according to Westbrook, and he was stuffed for a 3-yard loss. The Eagles settled for a field goal which turned out to be the game's final points.
This game was Westbrook's first action since the first play of the second quarter against the Steelers when he suffered an ankle strain.
