Running back Dion Lewis was arrested early Saturday morning in Albany, N.Y. after allegedly pulling a fire alarm in an attempt to enter a hotel, according to a report in the Albany Times-Union. Lewis, on behalf of the Eagles, issued the following statement Monday afternoon.

"I want to apologize to my family, the Albany community, the Eagles organization and fans, and to the NFL for my involvement in an incident this past weekend," Lewis said in the statement. "It was never my intention to cause any public alarm or damage any property. I am sorry for any embarrassment and inconvenience that my actions have caused. I am committed to continuing to conduct myself in conformance with the high moral, ethical and professional standards that I have my entire life and of which so many others rightly expect of me. Because the matter is still in the hands of the court system, I cannot comment any further."

A fifth-round pick of the Eagles in 2011, Lewis was the team's primary kickoff return specialist and backup running back last season. Lewis scored his first NFL touchdown and accumulated a career-high 58 rushing yards in the season finale against Washington. Lewis is slated to be the No. 2 running back behind LeSean McCoy in 2012. Lewis replaced McCoy at the University of Pitt and broke McCoy's record for most rushing yards by a freshman and sophomore.
