QB Nate Sudfeld starts for Eagles as Carson Wentz and other players get the night off

For the second straight season, Nate Sudfeld kicks off the preseason as the first quarterback in game action.

Sudfeld gets the start Thursday night as the Eagles host the Tennessee Titans, while Carson Wentz has the night off.

Head coach Doug Pederson said on Tuesday he wants to see Sudfeld take a big step in his third year in Philadelphia.

"I think it can be a really good indication for him. You know, the goal would be to get him as much time as we can behind center in these four games," Pederson said. "I don't want him to feel like there's any kind of pressure but there's always pressure to just go perform and just play. He's very comfortable with the offense. I think by cutting it down, too, the volume of information, even for a guy that's been here, can help, when you cut the volume down."

Sudfeld's night ended unfortunately when he suffered a broken left wrist late in the first half when he braced himself during a fall. Pederson said Sudfeld will have surgery on Friday and at that point a better timetable for his return can be determined. Sudfeld was 10-of-18 for 177 yards, a touchdown (a beautiful 75-yard score to Marken Michel), and a 107.9 rating.
