Parkey 3-of-3 On Field Goals; Eagles Up 16-7

Perhaps the most important position battle of the night in terms of impact on Week 1 for the Eagles has taken an interesting turn. Kicker Cody Parkey made his third field goal of the night in the third quarter, and his second of over 50 yards, when he knocked home a 53-yard field goal to give the Eagles a 16-7 lead. Parkey backed that up with a deep touchback. Alex Henery, meanwhile, has not yet attempted a field goal on the night.

The Eagles are currently driving and are into the Jets' red zone after Matt Barkley fired a 22-yard dart to Quron Pratt to convert on a 3rd-and-17.

Update: Barkley and the Eagles would cash in a touchdown on a 7-yard scramble from the quarterback, capping a 15-play, 80-yard drive.

Meanwhile, the Eagles' deep crop of backup running backs has dwindled as Matthew Tucker left the game with a shoulder injury, and will not return, while Kenjon Barner will also not return after an X-ray on his ankle was negative.

The Jets got on the board for the first time early in the third quarter when new quarterback Tajh Boyd lofted a pass deep to wide receiver Clyde Gates. Eagles safety Ed Reynolds II made a nice read on the play, streaking toward the ball, only to have the pass go through his arms.
