Otho Davis Foundation To Honor Buddy Era

The Otho Davis Scholarship Foundation announced the details of its 13th Annual Scholarship Dinner, which will take place Tuesday at the Sheraton Society Hill in Philadelphia. Tickets and sponsorships are available. Please call 856-312-1129, email othodavisfoundation@rcn.com or visit OthoDavisFoundation.org for more information

This year's event will honor former Eagles head coach Buddy Ryan. This season marks the 25th anniversary of Buddy's arrival in Philadelphia. His tenacious defense, big-play offense and winning spirit meshed perfectly with Philadelphia's passion for football. This evening will celebrate the Buddy Ryan era - an unforgettable time in the franchise's storied history - with many of his former players and coaches returning for the gala.

The night will offer a chance for many rabid Eagles fans - young and old - to relive the Fog Bowl, the Body Bag Game, the Bounty Bowl and the Fake Kneel Down. Eagles fans often recall today how Buddy's Eagles had a special place in their hearts due to these shared special moments and the star-studded roster. More than 40 players from Buddy's five seasons have been invited and the growing list of guests includes: Keith Byars, Keith Jackson, Seth Joyner, Clyde Simmons, Mike Quick, Eric Allen, Cris Carter as well as Mike Ditka and Dick Vermeil.

"I've lived in Philadelphia since being drafted in 1971 by the Eagles," said Harold Carmichael, the Eagles all-time leading receiver and president of the Otho Davis Scholarship Foundation. "There have been many good times for the Eagles in those 40 years, but Buddy's years were special. Those guys were like rock stars - you knew them by a single name. When you said 'Buddy,' 'Reggie,' 'Randall,' 'Jerome,' 'Wes,' 'Andre,' 'Quick,' 'Seth,' and 'Clyde,' people knew immediately who you were talking about."

The ODSF is celebrating its 13th year of philanthropy in memory of Otho Davis, head athletic trainer for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1973-1995. Since 1999, the organization has been working to raise funds to honor Otho's wishes of establishing a scholarship for aspiring students studying sports medicine, sports marketing, or a related field. Through contributions, donations, and fundraisers, the ODSF has awarded over $100,000.
