OT Jared Veldheer, Hillsdale | |||||
Pos. Rank: 10 | Grade: 4th Round | Height: 6-8 | Weight: 312 | 40: 5.06 | Year: 4-Sr. |
The Good: King-sized, athletic offensive tackle prospect with great upside. Naturally strong, easily controls opponents once engaged at the point of attack, or blocks down on defenders and smothers them from the action. Keeps his head on a swivel, works well with teammates, and displays above-average awareness. Stays disciplined with assignments, effectively adjusts to oncoming defenders, and gets a hand on opponents to knock them from their angle of attack. Fires off the ball into blocks and uses his large frame to seal defenders from the action.
The Bad: N Narrow based blocker and does not get a lot of movement run blocking. He must improve the consistency of his mechanics. Not effective far off the line of scrimmage or in motion.
The Verdict: Veldheer is a prospect with tremendous upside and an offensive lineman who could eventually start in the NFL. He's very rough around the edges, and more than anything else, needs to show consistency in the details of his game. His size and athleticism are enticing and could have a team over-drafting him.
