The Eagles traded back twice to acquire more draft capital before selecting Houston Christian outside linebacker Jalyx Hunt in the third round.

Here are five things to know about Hunt, the team's third-round pick (No. 94 overall), who signed his four-year rookie contract on Monday:

1. Hunt started his college career as a safety and track athlete at Cornell. He transferred to Houston Christian in 2022 and made the switch to pass rusher after an unexpected growth spirt.

"I was a late bloomer," Hunt said. "I played receiver coming out of high school. Played DB. I grew into my body some more, so when I transferred to Houston Christian it was a natural progression."

2. Hunt's blend of length and explosiveness is rare. The list of edge rushers drafted on Days 1 and 2 since 2015 with at least 34 1/4" arms while leaping 128" in the broad jump: Myles Garrett, Danielle Hunter, Will McDonald, Odafe Oweh, and now Jalyx Hunt.

3. According to Pro Football Focus, Hunt posted a 25.3 percent pressure rate on third down last season, the second best of any pass rusher at the NFL Scouting Combine this season.

"Yeah, he's got freaky tools in his body," said Executive Vice President and General Manager Howie Roseman. "He's an explosive guy. If you watch his best plays, he's doing things that are unique. He can bend. He can close. He can finish. He's long. He's an extremely smart kid obviously coming from Cornell."

4. Hunt won the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2023 after registering 46 tackles, 17 quarterback hits, nine tackles for loss, six and a half sacks, and two forced fumbles in 10 games (all starts).

5. Hunt can thank his mom, Jaaqua, for his unique name. Her favorite perfume at the time was called Calyx but everyone in the family had names that started with a J, so she switched the first letter out to create Jalyx.

"So, my mom came up with my name," Hunt said. "There is no history behind it really. Everybody in my family's name starts with a J and my mom's favorite cologne/perfume is called Calyx, so since everyone in the family's name starts with a J, I just became Jalyx. It's odd enough because I really love cologne. Maybe that – maybe that manifested into me loving cologne, I have no clue."
