General manager Howie Roseman debuted his "Howie Roseman Show" on Tuesday on Sportsradio 94WIP. Roseman is joined by co-hosts Anthony Gargano and radio play-by-play voice Merrill Reese each week from Chickie's and Pete's in South Philadelphia.
The next show will be on Tuesday, September 10 due to the Eagles' opening game on Monday night, September 9 – and will then air each Monday during the 2013 season. You can listen online here.
"I'm excited to talk Eagles football and share the passion with our great fans," said Roseman. "I'm looking forward to having a lot of fun throughout the season."
The show is the first of its kind in the NFL with a team general manager hosting his own live radio show.
In the first installment of the show, Roseman touched on a wide range of topics and addressed the personnel decisions that were made over the holiday weekend as the Eagles shaped their 53-man roster. The final move was claiming inside linebacker Najee Goode, who had been let go by the Buccaneers, and releasing inside linebacker Emmanuel Acho. Roseman expanded upon Goode's skill set and how the Eagles felt he would fit into the composition of the team.
"We were targeting a situational cover linebacker, a guy with speed, a guy who possibly can grow into a nickel linebacker and play special teams," Roseman said. "At the same time, we felt Jake Knott had done a great job of being that first down, second down, instinctive player more in the mold of DeMeco (Ryans) and looking for a guy more in mold to back up Mychal Kendricks, that kind of skill set.
"Jake was ahead of Acho, and getting the opportunity to get a guy who can run really well like Goode, we just thought that was a great opportunity for us. And it was no slight on Acho, he did a great job in the preseason. We were just looking for something as we built this team, and we thought maybe we had an opportunity to get when Goode became available."
