Vermeil was a guest of Anthony Gargano and Glen Macnow's afternoon radio show on 94 WIP  when he was asked for his take on who the next Eagles head coach should be.

"I just think he's a helluva of football coach, and I don't want him to make the mistake I made, to wait too long to go back," Vermeil said, per Philly.com. "I just think he's a helluva football coach and a great personality."

Vermeil is a member of the Eagles Hall of Fame after becoming the first coach to guide the team to a Super Bowl appearance in the 1980 season. Vermeil was the coach from 1976-82 and guided the Eagles to four straight playoff appearances and won a total of 104 (101 regular season, three postseason). Vermeil did not return to the sidelines for 15 years after leaving the Eagles. He was hired by the St. Louis Rams in 1997 and won a Super Bowl in the 1999 season.

Now, Vermeil isn't the only former Eagle to tout Gruden. Former Eagles quarterback and fellow Hall of Fame member Ron Jaworski, who works with Gruden at ESPN, said that the coach would be "interested" in certain jobs. Jaworski said that the Eagles have not reached out to Gruden. The Eagles, however, have received permission to speak with Jon's brother Jay, who is the offensive coordinator in Cincinnati about the head coaching job.

While he hasn't coached since being fired by Tampa Bay after the 2008 season, Gruden has been involved with the game by working with ESPN. Gruden won a Super Bowl with the Buccaneers in 2002, but his teams had a losing record following that campaign. In his last season with the Bucs, Tampa Bay had an epic collapse which allowed the Eagles to sneak into the playoffs on the final day of the regular season.
