Fletcher Cox Named NFC Defensive Player Of The Week

After a three-sack performance in Sunday's win over Washington, defensive tackle Fletcher Cox was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday.

It's the second time Cox has earned the award and first since his other three-sack outing against quarterback Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints in 2015. Cox has also won the NFC Defensive Player of the Month award which he took home last September.

Cox's three sacks keyed the Eagles' first shutout of Washington since 1980 and of any team since 2014 against the Giants. The domination of Washington capped off a stellar month for Cox as the Eagles won four out of their last five games to earn a playoff spot. In December, Cox finished tied for first in the league with 6.5 sacks.

Cox was named to the NFC's Pro Bowl squad for the fourth time in his seven seasons with the Eagles. He eclipsed double-digit sacks for the first time with a career-best 10.5 in 2018 to lead the Eagles. He also had 12 tackles for loss, his most since 2015, and 74 combined QB pressures and hits which was almost as many as the past three seasons combined (87).

NBC Sports' Peter King named Cox as his runner-up for NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors.
