Five Reasons We're Pumped For Minicamp

It's a beautiful day here in South Philadelphia, because of both the weather and the occasion. Eagles 2014 minicamp begins on Tuesday and runs through Thursday, and here are five reasons to be excited for the start of the action ...

1. Chip Kelly's pre-practice press conference and Eagles Live!

Others may claim to be the most interesting man in the world, but we all know that title most likely belongs to Chip Kelly. The Eagles head coach spoke during last week's OTAs, and now he'll address the media before each of this week's minicamp training sessions.

Shortly after Coach Kelly wraps up his press conference and runs out to the practice fields, Eagles Live! will hit the airways. Join Dave Spadaro in studio as he discusses the latest Eagles news, and be sure to join the show by calling in or participating in our live chat. Eagles Live! is the perfect way to spend your lunch break.

2. The full squad takes the field

Despite the fact that OTAs were voluntary, just about every single Eagle participated, and the only one who didn't had a good reason. Fifth-round draft pick Ed Reynolds was still attending class at Stanford, a university that runs on academic quarters instead of semesters. The NFL mandates that players can't participate until the academic year comes to an end, so Reynolds was limited to using Skype to talk to coaches and podcasting team meetings on his iPad. But now, school's out for summer, and all 90 Eagles should be in attendance.

Coach Kelly has been quick to downplay the importance of which players are getting certain reps at this stage, and that makes sense, but it is still fun to see all the players lining up and watching them perform. Yes, it's only June, but even a small taste of football is a good taste of football. When Nick Foles fires a pass to Brent Celek for a touchdown in a red-zone drill, it's okay to get excited because it helps us to picture it happening during a regular season game. Can't you just hear the Fight Song playing?

3. Foles and Mac

After practice comes to an end, Nick Foles and Jeremy Maclin will take the podium and answer questions. Maclin is coming off of a lost season due to an ACL injury, and he's looking to step up as a leader of a young Eagles receiving corps. Foles also figures to take on more of a leadership role as he enters his first season as the Eagles starting quarterback, so it will be interesting to see how both players are attacking the early part of the 2014 season.
