Fan Mock Draft: Rams On The Clock

Every year, we count down the days until the NFL Draft by letting you make the picks in our Fan Mock Draft. Every day until the opening bell of the draft on May 8, you'll get to vote and decide one selection per day, until we arrive at the Eagles' selection at No. 22 overall. Today, we turn to the St. Louis Rams, who have the second overall selection …

By merit, this second overall pick should belong to the Washington Redskins, who won only three games in 2013. But because of the high cost the Redskins paid to acquire Robert Griffin III in the 2012 NFL Draft, this pick now belongs to the St. Louis Rams.

The Rams hold not only this second selection but the No. 13 pick in this year's draft as well, so they won't be forced to draft for need in this spot. Though there is talk that the Rams would like to move down a few spots and acquire even more picks, surely they'd also feel comfortable taking either the best or second best player on their board. Could that player be a quarterback though?

The first overall pick in 2010, Sam Bradford has been somewhat underwhelming in his four seasons in St. Louis and is coming off another injury-plagued season in which he started only seven games. Bradford only has one year remaining on his expensive rookie contract, so it's possible that head coach Jeff Fisher will have an eye on a different quarterback of the future. If that's the case, perhaps Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel or Teddy Bridgewater is the pick here, though that certainly sounds like an unlikely possibility.

More likely, the Rams could opt to protect Bradford better by addressing the offensive line. Auburn's Greg Robinson has become a popular projected pick here, as the ascending tackle is thought to be an NFL-ready run blocker who has the tools to become a trustworthy blindside protector. If Fisher and the Rams choose to focus on a more polished offensive lineman, Jake Matthews of Texas A&M could be the choice.

Last year, the Rams moved up to No. 8 overall to select the speedy playmaking wide receiver Tavon Austin. While Austin became an impact player late last season, the Rams still could use some more explosiveness on the outside. Enter Sammy Watkins, the Clemson dynamo considered the draft's top wideout.

Finally, Buffalo pass rusher Khalil Mack could present the Rams an opportunity for the pass-rushing rich to get richer. After finishing third in the league with 53 sacks last season thanks to the likes of Robert Quinn, perhaps the Rams choose to double-down on that identity by tabbing Mack.

For now, you get to play Rams GM and make the call. Who goes second overall in the Fan Mock Draft?
