Some Eagles fans will be disappointed to see UCLA pass rusher extraordinaire Anthony Barr no longer on the board after his selection by the Tennessee Titans at No. 11 in the Fan Mock Draft. With that pick behind us, we turn our attention to the division-rival New York Giants, who are looking to turn things around after a 7-9 season in which Eli Manning threw a league-leading 27 interceptions.
With Manning entering his age-33 season, the Giants are doing their best to take advantage of the quarterback's remaining window. The brunt of the Giants' offseason work on the offensive side of the ball went into addressing a formerly porous offensive line. The team signed four offensive linemen in free agency, a year after selecting offensive lineman Justin Pugh in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. So it would be no surprise to see the Giants continue to focus their resources up front with either Michigan's Taylor Lewan or Notre Dame's Zack Martin. Meanwhile, a sleeper has emerged in the form of mammoth Virginia tackle Morgan Moses (6-foot-6, 316 pounds), who has recently been linked as a possibility for the Giants.
After losing Hakeem Nicks in free agency, the Giants could also help the reigning interception champ out by bringing in a new toy on the outside at receiver. Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle are in line to start, but there is little depth behind them. The Giants would have their pick of a large group of receivers beyond the top two (Sammy Watkins and Mike Evans), though Odell Beckham Jr., Brandin Cooks and Marquise Lee appear to have established themselves as the next tier.
As much was we'd like to troll and offer up quarterbacks as an option here, the Giants have given every indication that they won't be moving on from Manning any time soon. And with Josh Freeman signed in free agency and 2013 fourth-round pick Ryan Nassib on the roster, it's hard to imagine the Giants pulling the trigger on the position in the first round – despite Manning's league-high interception count in 2013.
On defense, Pittsburgh defensive tackle Aaron Donald might be considered the best player available here and he would aid an aging Giants defensive line. Alabama linebacker C.J. Mosley would also make a lot of sense to patrol the middle of the Giants defense.
In the secondary, the Giants spent big bucks on signing former Eagle and Batman enthusiast Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, along with nickel specialist and former Seahawk Walter Thurmond. With former first-round pick Prince Amukamara also on hand, cornerback seems like an unlikely pick. Safety, though, could certainly be addressed, with Antrel Rolle on the wrong side of 30. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix seems to be at the top of the safety board, but Louisville's Calvin Pryor, or perhaps even Jimmie Ward of Northern Illinois, could end up the apple of the Giants' eye.
So who will join the Giants at No. 12 in the continued effort to limit Manning's penchant for picks? As always, you get to make the call …
