On Tuesday, the Eagles made a pair of roster moves, signing tight end Tony Curtis and linebacker Curtis Gatewood. Curtis (6-5, 251) will wear No. 83 and Gatewood (6-2, 248) will wear No. 48. To make room on the roster, the Eagles released quarterback Adam DiMichele and wide receiver Shaheer McBride.
In 36 career NFL games, all with Dallas, Curtis has 11 catches for 50 yards and three touchdowns. In fact, all three of his touchdowns came on his only three receptions in 2007. The 6-5, 251-pound Curtis is known as a good blocking tight end and was originally signed as a rookie free agent out of Portland State in 2005 by the Cowboys and spent the entire season on the practice squad. Curtis appeared to have a future in Dallas in the 2008 off-season even with the presence of Jason Witten. Dallas had traded backup tight end Anthony Fasano to the Dolphins paving the way for Curtis. However, the Cowboys used a second-round pick to select Martellus Bennett one day later.
Curtis still played in all 16 games for Dallas last year and caught 8 passes for 32 yards. Curtis was signed by the Chiefs after they traded Tony Gonzalez earlier this off-season. However, Curtis was let go when Amani Toomer was signed.
Gatewood, an outside linebacker, originally signed with the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent out of Vanderbilt in 2008. After spending several weeks on the Redskins practice squad, he was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs and appeared in six games, recording four tackles on special teams. Gatewood played defensive end at Vanderbilt, where he was teammates with Eagles safety Reshard Langford. He spent part of the 2009 training camp with the Detroit Lions.
DiMichele, a Temple product, was signed by the Eagles on August 12 after Kevin Kolb suffered an MCL sprain that would keep him out of the first two preseason games. McBride signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Delaware State in 2008, and spent the entire 2008 season on the Eagles practice squad.
