Eagles Sign Former Arena DE Brown

The Eagles signed defensive end Xavier Brown on Saturday night to get to the 90-man roster limit. Brown worked out for the team earlier in the day.

The team also officially placed wide receiver Ron Johnson on the Injured Reserve list. Johnson fractured and dislocated his ankle during practice on July 30.

The 6-4, 265-pound Brown was most recently a member of the Arena Football League's New Orleans Voodoo, where he posted 4.0 sacks and three passes defensed in 13 games. Brown was traded to New Orleans from the Chicago Rush, where he collected a team-leading 6.0 sacks. Brown also had a brief stint with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.

The 24-year-old played collegiately at Division-II L.I.U. Post (formerly C.W. Post), where he started 31 games and logged 128 tackles, 24.5 sacks, 43 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles and four blocked kicks over a four-year career from 2007-10. As a senior in 2010, the Bay Shore, N.Y., native was tabbed as a PSAC East First-Team defender and a Super Region 1 First Team performer after leading the Pioneers with 8.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and 38 tackles.
