Defense Forces Two Early Turnovers

In the driving snow, with the field more white than green, the Eagles defense is keeping the team in the game thanks to two early forced turnovers. While the offense has been unable to move the ball much, the Lions have made their way down the field several times, only to fumble the ball away twice in the red zone.

In the first quarter, Lions running back Joique Bell, who is the bellcow with Reggie Bush questionable to return with a calf injury, had the ball jarred loose by Cedric Thornton. Connor Barwin then recovered the fumble. Later, in the second quarter, the Eagles cause another Bell fumble. This time, Barwin forced the fumble and Patrick Chung recovered the ball at the Eagles' 9-yard-line.

Entering the game, the Eagles had a plus-7 turnover differential on the season while the Lions entered the game with a negative-8 turnover differential. The Eagles are 6-1 this season when they win the turnover battle.

The score remains 0-0 in the early part of the second quarter.
