Caplan On Eagles' Pre-Draft Needs

Adam Caplan of Sirius NFL Radio and Scout.com provided his list of the Eagles' top pre-draft needs and he surmised that the defense is the where the Eagles need to improve the most.

Caplan listed cornerback as the team's top need, followed by free safety and - albeit a bit of a surprise - defensive tackle.

"With the trade of (Sheldon) Brown, cornerback becomes perhaps the biggest need for this team heading into the draft," Caplan wrote. "Ellis Hobbs, who is coming back from neck surgery, would be considered to be the starter at this point."

Currently, the starter at the free safety position will be either free agent addition Marlin Jackson, last year's opening day starter Macho Harris or Quintin Demps.

As for defensive tackle, Caplan admitted that it's "not on the fans' list of needs."

"Philadelphia needs a disruptive force from the interior of their defensive line," Caplan wrote.

In addition to those top needs, Caplan listed other positions where the depth needs to improve - running back, right offensive tackle, guard, defensive end, weakside linebacker and strong safety.
