Defensive end Victor Abiamiri was in good spirits as he reported to training camp on Wednesday. Even though head coach Andy Reid declared that Abiamiri would be sidelined until mid-August with a strained pec muscle, an injury suffered while bench pressing, the third-year player who is expected to compete for a starting spot at left defensive end seemed to indicate that he could be back on the practice field sooner.
"I mean it's up to the trainers," Abiamiri said. "It's not nearly as bad as last year."
Abiamiri missed the first five games of 2008 with a dislocated wrist. He finished with 22 tackles and a pair of sacks. Abiamiri said that it would be good to get in some live action before the start of the season.
"It'll definitely be good to get ... a couple of hits out there definitely before the season starts," Abiamiri said. "I'm going to take my time with it and come back as soon as I can."
