A 6th round pick out of Abilene Christian in 1977, Montgomery finished his Eagles career as the club's all-time rushing leader in terms of yards (6,538) and attempts (1,465). His 194-yard effort in the 1980 NFC Championship Game victory over Dallas, including a 42-yd. TD on the Eagles second offensive play from scrimmage, will never be forgotten. In all, Montgomery scored 58 career TDs as an Eagle. Montgomery played in the Pro Bowl following the 1978 and 1979 seasons. He was born September 16, 1954 in Greenville, MS.
YEAR-BY-YEAR
1977: A sixth-round draft pick, Montgomery had 183 rushing yards and two touchdowns as a rookie.
1978: In his first full season as the starter, Montgomery earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors, rushing for 1,220 yards and nine touchdowns. He also added 195 yards in the receiving game.
1979: Montgomery made his second Pro Bowl and All-Pro, rushing for a career-high 1,512 yards and nine touchdowns. He led the league with 2,006 scrimmage yards and finished eighth in AP MVP voting.
1980: Montgomery played in 12 games and ran for 778 yards and eight touchdowns, adding 407 receiving yards and two scores. He helped the Eagles reach the Super Bowl and led the NFL in postseason rushing yards (312) and rushing touchdowns (three).
1981: Montgomery ran for 1,402 yards and eight touchdowns in one of his best seasons in the league. He added 49 receptions for 521 yards and two touchdowns.
1982: In eight games, Montgomery had 515 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. He added 258 rushing yards and two scores.
1983: Montgomery played just five games and had 192 total yards.
1984: In his final season with the Eagles, Montgomery was fully healthy and had 1,290 scrimmage yards (789 rushing and 501 receiving).
