Before the team's trip to Seattle, the Eagles locked up another core member of the special teams unit by signing the outstanding punter to a three-year extension through 2019.
"Donnie Jones is a key member of our special teams unit, and is someone who holds himself to the highest standard," said Howie Roseman. "He brings a number of great qualities to our locker room – consistency, reliability, accountability and professionalism. He embodies the type of character and class that we seek in building this team and we are excited to bring him back for the next three years."
Since Thursday afternoon, the Eagles have signed safety and special teams ace Chris Maragos, long snapper Jon Dorenbos and now Jones. The Eagles' outstanding special teams unit under the guidance of coordinator Dave Fipp will be able to maintain that continuity through at least 2017, as kicker Caleb Sturgis inked a one-year extension prior to the start of the season.
Since his arrival in 2014, Jones has solidified himself as the top punter in franchise history in terms of both gross punting average, net punting average and punts inside the 20-yard line. This Sunday, Jones squares off against Seattle, the team that originally selected him in the seventh round of the 2004 NFL Draft.
