Once Again, Jake Elliott Delivers In The Clutch

It was clutch time, and that means it was Jake Elliott time.

With the Eagles' offense struggling for every point it could score in Monday night's game against the Oakland Raiders, Elliott figured the need-to-win game might come down to his right leg.

He was right.

Elliott boomed a 48-yard field goal through changing winds and subfreezing temperatures with 22 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to provide the winning points in Philadelphia's 19-10 victory over the Raiders. The win moved the Eagles to 13-2 and clinched the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC playoffs for the team.

And for Elliott, it was pretty much business as usual. His made field goal was his ninth in 10 fourth-quarter attempts this season, his first in the NFL. He's had three kicks to provide the game-winning points -- against the Giants with the 61-yarder in Week 3, at the Los Angeles Rams and on Monday night. Additionally, his 48-yard field goal was his 17th plus-40-yard kick of the season, tying the single-season franchise record previously held by David Akers (2004)

"Obviously with the conditions playing a factor I was trying to get a feel for that. When there were timeouts I would jog to the side of the field just to see kind of what the wind was doing," Elliott said. "Sometimes you don't get a feel when you're over there.

"I was extremely confident going into that kick. I had a really good feeling it was going to come down to a field goal for us or for them. Luckily, we were on the good side of that."

The snap from Rick Lovato was perfect, the hold from Donnie Jones was right on, and the protection was spotlight. All Elliott had to do was have ice water in his veins. Again.

"I like that situation," said Elliott, who has made 26 of 31 field goal attempts for the season. He was 2-of-3 on Monday night, missing a 33-yard field goal wide right late in the first half and making a 35-yarder to tie the game at 10-10 in the third quarter.

When it came to crunch time, Elliott was on point. And he felt great when the ball went through the uprights in the South end zone and the officials signaled that his kick was good.

"It's unbelievable, especially knowing how big this game was for our team in that situation, knowing that everybody's got to roll through Philly now," Elliott said. "It's a big deal."

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Oakland Raiders, 19-10. This win clinched home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs.
