Brooks: This Is Where I Need To Be

As free agency opened earlier this week, there was no doubt in Brandon Brooks' mind about which team wanted him most. Looking down at his phone he saw texts from Jason Peters, Lane Johnson and Jason Kelce, all telling him about what the future could hold if he was to sign with the Eagles.

Once he spoke with the organization, he knew it would be the right fit. Now, Brooks is under contract for the next five seasons and he's ready to get to work in Philadelphia.

"Just the way they approached and came at me, it was no dragging of the feet, no we're going to see how it works out, shakes out," Brooks said during his Friday afternoon introductory press conference. "It was, 'We want you,' that type of nature. It felt good to be wanted.

"In the grand scheme of things, for me, I felt the most wanted here. I wanted to go somewhere where I felt really wanted, where I felt I could fit in good with the guys, fit in good with the scheme ... I just felt like at this point in my life, this is where I need to be."

The offensive lineman was a highly sought after free agent who had a number of offers from other teams, including a push from Houston where he has spent the last four years. But for Brooks, Philadelphia was calling and he had an urge to take the next step in his career.

Jumping in as the starting right guard in 2016, a spot where he has already made 44 career starts, Brooks will help to strengthen an offensive line that had its fair share of good and bad times last year.

Brooks knows he can help and from a personal standpoint feels the teammates he'll play beside will enable him to reach his full potential and elevate his play.

"I know Lane is one of the best young right tackles in the league," Brooks said. "I know Kelce has been doing this for a long time and is one of the best pulling centers that I've ever seen since I've been watching the game. I really want to learn from Kelce. He does a lot of things at a high level. Great guy.

"Like I said, he was probably the first or second guy to text me saying we'd have the ability to do great things here. I really just want to have him take me under his wing, along with Peters, and hopefully that'll take my game to their level."

With his name signed on the dotted line, the guard's only focus is football. He had been pursuing an MBA at the University of Houston but decided to put furthering his education on hold.

"I need to really every second be breathing, living it," Brooks said about his football career.

From this point on for the offensive lineman, it's all Eagles all the time. He's ready for the 2016 season.
