A Bigger Role For Jay Ajayi?

It's possible that running back Jay Ajayi will see an uptick in snaps this weekend against the Dallas Cowboys.

After having just a few days to prepare for Denver, Ajayi turned in a remarkable debut leading the team with 77 rushing yards and earning his first touchdown of the season. With extra time over the bye week to delve further into the playbook, Ajayi could assume a larger role in the offense. He's shown the coaching staff the ability to pick the offense up quicker than expected.

"I was impressed with Jay right off the bat in the first week how quickly he grasped (the playbook)," offensive coordinator Frank Reich stated Tuesday afternoon.

"(Running backs coach) Duce (Staley) has been around the block a few times and for Duce to walk out of that (initial crash course) and say, 'Yeah, we're good. This guy's going to be fine.' And that's what we've seen."

As for the upcoming duel with the Dallas, Reich acknowledged linebacker Sean Lee's hamstring injury stands as a substantial loss for the Cowboys. Lee, a two-time Pro Bowl as well as a first-team All-Pro selection last season, leads the team in tackles this season. Nonetheless, Reich expects Dallas to bounce back from the injury as the Eagles have done all season.

"He's an amazing player. I mean his instincts, his knack to get to the football, is second to none. You watch him on tape and he is an impressive football player, so it's a big loss for them. There's no question," Reich said. "But this is the NFL. We've lost some good players as well and I'm sure they've got the same mentality as we have. Next man up and he's their leader and their quarterback on defense but what a great player he is."
