Eagles select Dylan McMahon with the 190th overall pick

Perhaps it's a sign or just dumb luck, but like Jason Kelce, who was selected by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft, No. 191 overall, Dylan McMahon, who was chosen in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, No. 190 overall, doesn't spell team with an i either.

"I would say he's the best center to ever do it," McMahon said during a virtual conference call with reporters on Saturday. "I would say I looked at his game a lot because of how – I'm an undersized guy, and watching him be able to play the way he did, his leverage and skill set, trying to take any little bits and pieces I can from his game is what I tried to implement this year at my level. Being able to be at a place he was at is an honor just to be there.

"I look forward to meeting him at some point and trying to learn some more from him as the road goes down."

After starting in 30 games at right or left guard between 2019-22 for North Carolina State, McMahon took a step sideways and played center when his teammate, Grant Gibson, suffered a season-ending injury with three games left in the 2022 campaign. No complaints. It's what you do. The team comes first.

"This year they needed me at center and I love playing center," McMahon said. "That's my favorite position to play. Just being able to plug and play anywhere the coaches need or anywhere I can help out is what I really pride myself in. Being able to be that team player for any of the guys that might need me to step up in one of those positions."

McMahon remained there last season and earned honorable mention All-ACC honors despite having to sit out two games because of a knee injury.

And like his older brother, Ryan, who was an All-ACC center at Florida State and signed as an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Falcons, the Savannah, Georgia native has a way of anticipating and reacting to defensive linemen's stunts at the line of scrimmage. The Wolfpack coaches noticed and awarded McMahon more elite grades during his senior season than any other offensive lineman.

What Director of Player Personnel Alan Wolking said: "He is so quick. I've gone into N.C. State for many years and I've seen a lot of him. And when you work here in Philadelphia, where you always had a center who was just a one-off, because no one is like Jason Kelce, but he gives you such an appreciation for centers who are athletic.

"With Dylan, you saw these glimpses where you say, 'WOW, that is super quick.' In our offense there are some blocks that are near-impossible to make and maybe he can make some of these blocks. He's just really quick. The ability to travel laterally. To reach, scoop, or cut off and then any of the climbing to the second level, he just gets on people fast. You look at something by alignment and you see where the offense is trying to go and you think that it might look good on paper, but it's just hard for a guy to execute that block and then 'boom' he gets his face across the guy. So for me, watching those types of plays for Dylan is really what caught my eye. I think it was the Marshall game, he had this span where they ran outside zone on three straight plays and he reached the same guy and you see that's pretty special.

"On top of that, he's super tough. High care factor on the technique – the feet are going to be right, the hands are going to be right, and the call is going to be right. He's a complete football player."
