A.J. Brown goes up for the ball against James Bradberry.

The Eagles returned to the practice field on Sunday for the first time since Friday night's preseason opener. It was a 90-minute spirited practice with the players in full pads. Here are eight takeaways. For more on Sunday's roster moves and injury updates, click here.

1. It's great to see DeVonta Smith back on the field as a full participant in practice, as today marked the first time that Jalen Hurts had his full complement of receivers at his disposal (Zach Pascal was out of the lineup when Smith was last healthy). In the first team period, Hurts started fast. He found wide receiver A.J. Brown on a scramble drill, with the veteran receiver showing strong hands as he worked his way back to the quarterback. Soon after, Hurts hit Smith on a pair of out routes on consecutive plays. – Ben Fennell

2. I stayed with the receivers as one-on-one drills began, and the first matchup we get is DeVonta Smith vs. James Bradberry. Bradberry, as he has been all camp, was extremely competitive through the end of this rep, poking the ball out at the last minute and forcing the incompletion. The two matched up again twice later, with Smith winning on a slant and then taking Bradberry over the top for a deep go route that got the fans excited. Zach Pascal showed off impressive route running in this drill, creating impressive separation on a stop route, a slant, and a hitch, leading to a trio of completions. – Fran Duffy

3. Team drills get back underway, and the defensive front was extremely active to start this drill. Fletcher Cox pressures Jalen Hurts with an impressive bull rush on the first rep. Josh Sweat forces the next play to be blown dead with a "sack." Sweat and Brandon Graham create pressure and a quick throw on the next play, and then Milton Williams jumps on a loose ball in the backfield to start the drill. While all of this is happening, I'm trying to take note on the fly of all of the different combinations and looks up front. Williams is going to be such an important part of this defense, if this summer is any indication. His versatility and disruptive potential are impressive. – Ben

4. The offense bounces back after those first four plays with an exciting reception from DeVonta Smith. Jalen Hurts dropped back and let a pass loose down the left sideline, threading the throw between a pair of defenders with Smith taking to the air to come down with the throw in traffic. – Fran

5. Offensive and defensive linemen convene on the middle field for some one-on-one drills, and I thought the defensive line carried the dominance over from team periods into this drill. The usual cast of characters all showed up well (Fletcher Cox, Josh Sweat, etc.), but one of my favorite reps came from Jordan Davis, who showed off really impressive quickness with a fast win off the ball. Relatively unknown tackle Kobe Smith had a nice inside move for a win as well. – Ben

6. While one-on-ones were happening, I took in the 7-on-7 drill on the near field. Jalen Hurts was efficient, completing a pair of passes to Dallas Goedert before finding A.J. Brown on a shallow cross over the middle and later DeVonta Smith on a slant. – Fran

7. The team gathered for a highly competitive, backed-up session, with the offense working to get out of its own end zone. The defensive intensity was palpable in this drill in nearly every aspect. Linebacker Kyzir White punched a ball out of running back Kenny Gainwell's hands that was either an incompletion or forced fumble – it was tough to tell without a replay. T.J. Edwards was flying around. The defensive front was stuffing the run. The defense was definitely feeling it today – it was impressive. – Ben

8. The final team period is underway, with the offensive highlight being a deep ball down the left sideline to Quez Watkins from Jalen Hurts. It was a beautifully placed ball over the shoulder near the pylon – he couldn't have handed that ball off better. Defensively, Fletcher Cox showed up against the run, as did T.J. Edwards. Davion Taylor nearly had an impressive interception, jumping an out route for a breakup. Taylor flashed to me in the game on Friday against the Jets; he's playing as fast as ever mentally right now. – Fran
