Break the Silence about Domestic Violence #BTSLemonChallenge

Break the Silence about Domestic Violence #BTSLemonChallenge

Since the start of the quarantine, Montgomery County has experienced a 9% increase in domestic violence. However, Laurel House continues to offer all of its supportive services to victims of domestic violence, just a little differently. Anyone needing immediate help for themselves or a friend should still call our 24-hour hotline at 1-800-642-3150.

Laurel House was fortunate to receive early crisis donations that enabled us to offer emergency aid to our clients during this COVID-19 Crisis. However, our greatest need still remains – securing the general operating funds needed to support our dedicated staff members that offer those direct support services to victims. Please consider making a direct donation OR helping us to raise awareness through our Social Media Lemon Challenge.

Hands: You can’t shake ‘em; save lives with ‘em.

Hands: You can't shake 'em; save lives with 'em.

We're hearing countless stories about the heroic efforts of our medical professionals. While they have endured years of training, there is one skill they possess that we can learn in minutes - chest compressions (or CPR). It keeps the blood pumping throughout the body when someone is in cardiac arrest. BYOB - bring your own ball (seriously, any ball) and join us online for a quick lesson in CPR. We'll provide the music. You'll also learn how to use an AED device (automated external defibrillator). Designed for kids. Parents welcome.

Mentoring Uninterrupted

Mentoring Uninterrupted

We need your support to continue to be effective frontline doers. We are forging ahead with mentoring our high school students, holding group mentoring sessions with high school students, advising our college students who are taking online classes at home, and working with students who are now unemployed. Your support of our work will help mentors serve students in at-risk environments. Your gift will help our young people feel heard, seen, connected, and supported in an era of uncertainty, anxiety, and isolation. Your generosity is needed to enable us to help our students during this time. Your continuing support is kindly asked during this time.

Variety Cares

Variety Cares

During this COVID crisis, children with developmental disabilities are regressing, demonstrating aggressive behaviors, and feeling isolated in a world difficult to comprehend. Parents are challenged to manage the special needs of their children without the educational support they've typically relied upon. During this shutdown, Variety has created - and continues to expand - virtual learning opportunities to assist parents and to remain connected to the vulnerable children we serve. We are also preparing to open our doors when the shutdown is over so those critical social connections can be immediately re-activated and we can offer much-needed respite for parents, many of whom must return to work.

Women Against Abuse’s COVID-19 Relief Fund

Women Against Abuse's COVID-19 Relief Fund

As Philadelphians stay in their homes to slow the spread of COVID-19, many of them will be quarantined with an abusive partner. During these unprecedented times, our mission - to support people experiencing domestic violence - is even more urgent. These are a few ways Women Against Abuse is on the FRONT LINES during this pandemic:
o Counselors are providing 24-hour crisis intervention, safety planning and resources through the Philadelphia Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-866-723-3014.
o Because they are critical refuges, our two 100-bed emergency safe havens and transitional housing program are still operating – and closely following CDC guidelines for social distancing and regular disinfection of shared spaces to keep residents and staff safe.
o Our attorneys and court advocates are providing remote support for people in need of protection orders while the courts are closed.
We need your support now more than ever to ensure people experiencing abuse can access these life-saving interventions!
