The Eagles announced Wednesday morning that they have signed safety Phillip Thomas to the practice squad. Defensive tackle Frank Trotter was released from the practice squad to make room for Thomas.
Thomas was originally signed by the Eagles as a priority undrafted free agent following the 2012 NFL Draft and he spent the offseason with the team until he was released as part of the Eagles' final roster cutdown. He recorded five tackles and one pass defensed during the preseason.
Safety Nate Allen missed last week's game against the New Orleans Saints with a hamstring injury and was replaced by David Sims. With Allen, Sims, Kurt Coleman and Colt Anderson, there are four safeties on the active roster.
Trotter had been on the Eagles' practice squad since the beginning of the season.
