OT Russell Okung, Oklahoma State | |||||
Pos. Rank: 1 | Grade: 1st Round | Height: 6-5 1/2 | Weight: 307 | 40: 5.18 | Year: 4-Sr. |
The Good: Large, dominant offensive lineman who offers a great amount of upside potential. Strong at the point, gets movement run blocking and easily turns defenders from their angle of attack. Stays square, jolts defenders with violent hand punch, and keeps his feet moving throughout the action. Bends his knees blocking a wide base and works to play with leverage. Keeps his head on a swivel, always looking for someone to hit, and blocks with a nasty attitude. Above-average footwork in pass protection and easily anchors at the point of attack.
The Bad: Must be more cognizant of his hand placement. Does not display the ability to adjust to oncoming speed rushers. Marginally effective in motion.
The Verdict: Okung has been a terrific offensive lineman for Oklahoma State and a blocker who's stood out to us since his freshman season. He possesses size, growth potential as well as athleticism, and offers possibilities at either tackle spots. He should quickly break into an NFL lineup and have a long career at the next level.
