Final Mock Draft Tracker

Draft day has finally arrived and we're only hours way from finding out who, or if, the Eagles will select in the first round. Fletcher Cox has long been rumored to be the apple of their eye, but will they be willing to move up for the Mississippi State defensive tackle? Or has the Cox interest been a smokescreen all along while they really covet a different highly rated player? Will they stay put at 15 or even entertain offers to move down? Was Asante Samuel's departure a hint that they'll be selecting a cornerback early? All these questions and many more will be answered very shortly.

In the mean time, we bring you the final mock draft tracker of the 2012 draft season. Eighteen mock drafts published within the last few days have surveyed and the results are all across the board. No player received more than four mentions, with LSU defensive tackle Michael Brockers leading the way with those four. Defensive tackle was slotted to the Eagles in eight of the 18 mock drafts, and 12 of the 18 predict a defensive lineman will be the pick. Cornerback Stephon Gilmore of South Carolina, who some believe could go as high as the top five or 10 picks, slides to the Eagles in three of these scenarios and is scooped up by the Eagles. So who's got the right prediction? Or will the Eagles go completely off the board and draft a wildcard? We'll know soon enough ...

Site Selection Last Updated (Mike Mayock) Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina April 25
Comment: "We all know that Asante Samuel is out. With Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in the final year of his contract, though, I think you have to take a corner. Gilmore is the No. 8 player on my entire board." (Mike Lombardi) Chandler Jones, DE, Syracuse April 25
Comment: "Might be the best pass rusher in the draft. They like West Virginia's Bruce Irvin, as well." (Charley Casserly) Michael Brockers, DT, LSU April 25
Comment: "Will help their run defense and should be able to get pressure up the middle on passing downs." (Charles Davis) Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina April 24
Comment: "The dreaded 'boom or bust' label has been applied. The youngster I saw dominate all week at the Senior Bowl (including the game) was the "boom" portion. Coples will be expected to perform right away." (Albert Breer) Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis April 26
Comment: "Poe needs someone to light a fire underneath him. Jim Washburn, who once did it for Albert Haynesworth, is the man for the job." (Chad Reuter) Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis April 25
Comment: "Andy Reid doesn't mind taking a chance on a player's upside, and the extremely athletic, 346-pound Poe has as much potential as any player in this draft."
ESPN (Mel Kiper Jr.) Michael Brockers, DT, LSU April 26
Comment: "A great fit, Brockers helps the Eagles where they are desperate, on the interior of the defensive line. Even if they move down the board, this is a need I expect them to address."
ESPN (Todd McShay) Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi St. April 25
Comment: "Cox is the real deal. The Eagles can get to quarterbacks, but they were awful up the middle last year. Cox can be a big part of the solution."
CBS Sports (Dane Brugler) Michael Brockers, DT, LSU April 26
Comment: "It's no secret that Andy Reid prefers linemen in the first round, especially defensive linemen, making Michael Brockers a logical choice here. He is an intriguing prospect because he doesn't enter the NFL with a strong resume and is still very much an unpolished player. But the raw athletic ability matched with his large, long frame will be enticing for a defense who can mold the 21-year old into something special."
CBS Sports (Rob Rang) Michael Brockers, DT, LSU April 26
Comment: "Despite finishing a disappointing 8-8 a year ago, the Eagles enter the 2012 draft with as stocked a roster -- on paper -- as there is in the league. Head coach Andy Reid has long been a proponent of building through the lines. Brockers offers intriguing upside and a potential starting option should Mike Patterson's recovery from brain surgery not go as smoothly as hoped."
National Football Post (Wes Bunting) Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina April 26
Comment: "DE Chandler Jones is a name we are hearing in connection with the Eagles, but if he's gone they might look at a similar type prospect."
RotoWorld (Evan Silva) Chandler Jones, DE, Syracuse April 25
Comment: "The media was way late on this guy, though it's forgivable. Jones didn't put up jaw-dropping stats in the Big East, and he was injured for a spell last season before declaring early for the draft. But NFL teams love long-bodied pass rushers who play through the whistle and are only going to get better. Aldon Smith didn't have great production and wasn't healthy for his final college season, either, and he went seventh overall last offseason. And that worked out pretty well for the Niners."
Scouts Notebook (Matt Alkire) Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College April 26
Comment: N/A
Scouts Notebook (Tommy Lawlor) Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College April 26
Comment: "Kuechly is a terrific prospect, but he is a non-pass rushing linebacker at a time when that is one of the least sought after commodities in the NFL. Kuechly would come in to play the strong side role to start his career."
Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel (Bob McGinn) Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina April 26
Comment: "The Eagles have never been a big safety team and easily bypass Mark Barron. Undersized outside for years, Gilmore would become the fourth 6-foot corner the team has added in 13 months."
Sports Illustrated (Don Banks) Mark Barron, S, Alabama April 25
Comment: "Having just moved to the Philly area earlier this year, I'd love to nail this pick and impress the new neighbors. I think the Eagles lean toward Barron over Poe, but I'm pretty sure they'd be content with either. If it comes down to a choice between Brockers and Barron, that's where it gets sticky. But I believe I'd still have Andy Reid taking Barron in that scenario." (Tony Pauline) Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina April 26
Comment: "Trading away Asante Samuel means the cornerback position is now in play for the Eagles.  Gilmore is great value at this spot."
Sporting News (Russ Lande) Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis April 26
Comment: "The Eagles are desperate to improve their interior defensive line, and Poe is a special athletic talent. They have a history of willingness to gamble on talented prospects that need motivation and great coaching."
Cox is the player I said I thought the Eagles would target for months and I'll be sticking to my guns until draft day. Unfortunately for the Birds – I don't see any way he makes it through KC and Dallas – but a quick trade with Buffalo who doesn't see value on the board saves the day.
