CB Alterraun Verner, UCLA | |||||
Pos. Rank: 6 | Grade: 2nd Round | Height: 5-10 | Weight: 189 | 40: 4.52 | Year: 4=Sr. |
The Good: Aggressive cornerback with solid ball skills. Effectively reads the action, stays with receivers out of their breaks, and displays a burst of closing speed to the play. Physical with opponents throughout the action, quick up the field, and makes a lot of tackles against screen passes or running plays. Shows good route recognition in zone, solid hands for the interception, and very effective facing the action.
The Bad: Lacks top end speed and struggles staying downfield with receivers. Possesses solid size yet not overly big for a cornerback.
The Verdict: Verner been very productive the past four seasons at UCLA, and he is a cornerback opponents purposely stay away from. His instincts and ability to diagnose the action as it unfolds makes him a likely candidate for a zone defense. He could eventually start at the next level.
