Career Summary
A big-play target at tight end, Matt Schobel finished his second season in Philadelphia after signing as an unrestricted free agent from Cincinnati in 2006. Schobel's older brother, Aaron, is a DE with the Buffalo Bills, while his cousin, Bo, is a member of the Indianapolis Colts. Matt was originally a third round draft choice by Cincinnati in 2002.

BIRDSEED:
• Long before the Schobel family name became known for boasting three NFL stars, it was synonymous for great home-style cooking in Columbus, TX. Located at 202o Milam Street, "Schobel's Restaurant" has been owned and operated by the family for over 30 years. Originally owned by Matt's parents and his cousin Bo's parents, the restaurant was taken over by his brother, Ryan, in 2004 and is one of the best known restaurants in the state.
• Used to work at TCU changing dorm room light bulbs with Aaron and Bo for extra money. The three all shared a house on TCU's campus during college. Matt, Aaron and their oldest brother, Ryan, along with their father, Andy, have a four-way partnership in a tree farm in Texas that currently houses over 60,000 trees.
• Hosted the 2nd annual "Schobel Football Camp" in the 2007 offseason with brother, Aaron, and cousin, Bo. All of the proceeds will be given to renovating the Columbus HS football stadium. They raised over $25,000 towards the stadium
PERSONAL:
• He and his wife, Nicole, live in his hometown of Columbus, TX, in the offseason with their two sons, Tommy (7/9/04) and Adam (9/19/06)
• Earned All-America honors as a QB at Columbus HS. Passed for 1,134 yds. and 13 TDs as a senior, while rushing for 1,568 yds. and 19 TDs
• Worked as a lifeguard as his first job in high school
• Finished building a house with his brothers and cousins along the Colorado river in 2006. The family has held an annual wiffleball tournament in Texas that now takes place in the back yard of their new vacation home. "We get like 40 of us together, do home run derby, stuff like that. It gets really competitive sometimes"

COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS:
Played 3 seasons at TCU after transferring from Texas A&M. As a senior, averaged 30 yds/catch on his 5 TD receptions in 2001, including a 67 yarder at Nebraska. Finished the season with 21 catches for 332 yds., while missing 3 games with a hamstring injury. After transferring to TCU, sat out 1998 under NCAA rules. Originally signed with Texas A&M out of high school as a QB, and redshirted as an Aggie freshman in 1997.

Was inactive at NO (12/23) after suffering a concussion that forced him to leave in the 1st qtr. at Dal. (12/16). Inactive at Cle. (9/28/03) with a hamstring injury.
