Career Summary
A unique talent on defense with good pass-rush ability, Chris Gocong now enters his third season in Philadelphia. As the starting SAM linebacker in 2007, Gocong played in all 16 games and amassed 92 tackles and one sack after spending his rookie campaign on the Injured Reserve list. Gocong really began to show his playmaking ability in the second half of the season when defensive coordinator Jim Johnson began using him at both linebacker and defensive end. Said teammate Sheldon Brown of Gocong's progression: "Chris Gocong was definitely a nice surprise for us. He made such a leap. If you had asked me about him in the beginning of the year, I would have told you the coaches were crazy for putting him out there. But, now I think he's going to be a Pro Bowler." A third round draft choice in 2006, Gocong was one of college football's most prolific sack artists (42 sacks in 41 games) during his career at Division I-AA Cal Poly.

Spent the entire 2006 season on Injured Reserve with a stinger
Birdseed
BIRDSEED:
- Did work with the Animal Orphanage in Voorhees, NJ, in the 2008 offseason. Chris and his wife, Mandy, helped to publicize the shelter in its effort to win a "million dollar makeover" contest sponsored by Zootoo.com, a new opinion-sharing website for pet owners. Members from Zootoo visited more than 20 shelters locally to determine which shelter was most in need of a makeover. "My wife and I are big animal lovers, so it was something that I enjoyed doing," said Gocong. "There are so many pets that come into these shelters, that they almost become overloaded. A lot of them need more money so they can better provide for the animals, so it was great being on the forefront to try and accomplish that."
- With a degree in general engineering, Gocong has had a passion for building things and taking them apart since his youth, when he would re-assemble VCRs and TVs. In one of his more recent projects, Gocong purchased a 1960's Chevy Impala in the 2008 offseason and has been trying to upgrade it. "I don't even know that much about cars, but I love watching TV shows like Chop Cut Rebuild and American Chopper, and I really wanted to work on an old school car of my own."
- Attended Cal Poly, one of the nation's most prestigious engineering schools, to enter the biomedical field. "Nobody goes to Cal Poly to play football," said Gocong. His most challenging class was Fluid Dynamics, which he took twice due to a stringent professor, Jim Locascio. (Cal Poly also produced Hall of Fame coach John Madden, a 21st round draft pick of the Eagles in 1958)
- Gocong applies his engineering background to the football field. "Football is all about vectors, angles, and speed. It's pure physics. All football players know it, but just don't realize that fact."
- Is inspired by Payam Saadat, his defensive line coach at Cal Poly, who has the use of just one arm
- Growing up in a desert environment in Lancaster, CA, Gocong and his brother would playfully engage in sling-shot wars with rocks. His family relocated to Santa Barbara while Chris was in the 6th grade
PERSONAL:
- He and his wife, Mandy, were married on 6/30/07 and reside in Voorhees, NJ. The couple has two cats, Milo and Dolce, and a dog, Bella
- Is the son of Julie and Bruce Kennedy. Julie is an interior designer and Bruce owns Pointe Conception, a biomedical company that manufactures endoscopic cameras. His older brother, Ryan, was a running back at Div. III Claremont McKenna, and now works with Northrop Grummond, an aerospace company in Virginia
- Was a QB and LB at Carpinteria (CA) HS, where he twice earned All-CIF and all academic honors
- Also set the school record in the discus (183'3")
- His offseason training regimen includes Russian kettlebell training to work on controlled explosion
- Plays the guitar and was once in a band called ""Void""
- His first job was working as a mover
- His favorite band is "Lamb of God" and his favorite TV shows are "Survivor Man" and "Extreme Engineering." He enjoys playing "Counterstrike" on the computer and doing work at his house such as welding, plumbing, and electrical
- Grew up a fan of the San Francisco 49ers, but never attended a professional sporting event until watching an Eagles game in 2006
- Earned his degree in general engineering and would one day like to enter the biomedical field
COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS:
One of college football's most prolific sack artists, finished his career with 42 sacks in 41 games at Divsion I-AA Cal Poly. Captured the Buck Buchanan award given to the top defensive player in I-AA as a senior after leading the nation and setting a I-AA record with 23.5 sacks in 2005. Also posted a career-high 98 tackles. Led the nation with 17.5 sacks in 2004 and earning All-America honors. Redshirted in 2002 after making 6 tackles as a freshman in 2001.
INJURY HISTORY:
Was plagued with a stinger during the 2006 preseason and was placed on Injured Reserve on 9/2.
