Career Summary
To understand this six-time Pro Bowl safety, just take a look on the top shelf of his locker. There you will find multiple figurines of his favorite comic book hero, Wolverine, some of which have been provided by his fans. Wolverine is the low-key leader of the X-Men, a comic book action series, an animated cartoon and the main character in three full-length feature films. Wolverine is known for his animal-keen senses that allow him to track his adversaries with great ease, very much like Brian Dawkins, the longest tenured athlete in Philadelphia, hunts down opposing ball carriers and receivers. The Eagles 2nd round draft choice in 1996 landed a starting role in the second game of his rookie season and has averaged 100 tackles per year, while posting 33 interceptions (one shy of the club record) and countless train-wreck hits. Dawkins is one of four players in NFL history to post at least 32 interceptions and 18 sacks, joining Leroy Butler (38 INTs, 20.5 sacks), Rodney Harrison (33, 30.5) and Ronde Barber (33, 21).
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
• A six-time Pro Bowl selection in 1999, 2001-02, 2004, 2005-06, was also named first alternate in 2000, despite missing three games due to an emergency appendectomy

• Was selected by NFL.com's Vic Carucci as a member of the All-Interview Team for being accommodating and professional with the media.
• Now in his 12th season as an Eagle, is the longest tenured athlete in Philadelphia
• After training with ultimate fighting champion Tim "Obake" Catalfo, in his former offseason home of Jacksonville, FL, former teammate Levon Kirkland put him in touch with Jeff Higuera and the results have transformed Dawkins into a stronger, more flexible, weapon for Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson to deploy. Higuera provided Dawkins with a regimen that focused on kinetic training by working two muscle groups at the same time. This balance and stabilizing technique built his core and strengthened his hips and groin. That regiment along with his reliance on Ann Fredericks (a.k.a. "The Stretch Lady") resulted in fewer injuries and a quicker recovery time between games for Dawkins. "I have felt a tremendous difference," said Dawkins. "While we work on strength, we also work the core and do cardiovascular work. That has helped me stay strong, be more flexible and have greater endurance. I don't get those nagging groin injuries that I've had in the past. Before working with Jeff, that was a weakness for me and you're only as strong as your weakest link."
• During the week, Dawkins walks the Eagles locker room as a humble, mild mannered, God-fearing man. But on game day he transforms into one of the most fierce and energetic creatures ever to occupy a secondary. What's the secret? "My man Peduzzi hooks me up," explains Dawkins. "When he puts that Breathe Right on my nose, I just become the idiot man!" Chris Peduzzi, one of the Eagles athletic trainers, prepares that Breathe Right strip before Dawkins even gets to the stadium. He colors the strip with a midnight green marker on one half and a silver paint pen on the other. He then drinks his "Idiot Juice," a pinch of Vitamin B-12.
• Dawkins would like to coin a new term: free-lance safe-ty (FREE-lans SAFE-tee) n. a football player who is strong enough to defend the run and fast enough to cover wide receivers; must possess ability to blitz, defend the pass, and tackle in the open field; must be accounted for by the offense, otherwise he can determine the outcome of the game. Many players are credited with redefining a position for the way they play on the field. Dawkins has done just that, and has in turn, come up with a new name for his position. While many strong safeties can play up on the line vs. the run and cover the pass, free safeties are often left to play centerfield and react to the ball. Dawkins has excelled at both and therefore can not be limited to either existing definition.
• Was named to ESPN.com's list of "Top Ten Tacklers in the NFL" in 2006. Said Scouts Inc. of Dawkins: "Dawkins is the best tackling safety in the NFL. To be a great tackler at safety, you must have excellent speed and range. Dawkins covers ground in the deep half of the field as well as any safety in the NFL. The other thing he does so well is take great angles to the football...He is a sure tackler who can strike with force and finish with a solid wrap."
• In 2005, Paul Zimmerman of Sports Illustrated, named Dawkins as one of 17 active players who are sure to be headed to the Hall of Fame following retirement. Was also named to The Sporting News "Top 100 NFL Players"
• Was voted by fans as the starting free safety on the Eagles 75th Anniversary Team.
• Is one of 17 members of the Home Depot NFL Neighborhood MVP, a national program that recognizes players who are making a positive impact in their local communities through charitable programs and contributions. The Home Depot NFL Neighborhood MVP program will reward 17 players, one for each week of the regular season, with a football field refurbishment or a playground build in their local market and a donation to the charity of their choice. At the end of the year, one player will be honored as The Home Depot NFL Neighborhood MVP of the Year. The MVP of the Year will receive a $25,000 donation to the charity of his choice and will be recognized during Super Bowl XLII week. On 9/11/07, Dawkins spent his off-day refurbishing a football field at the Roxborough YMCA. "Days like this are very important," said Dawkins. "You don't just live for yourself. Everything you have is not just for you. I have been blessed with a lot playing this game so if I can give back to the community where I'm at or even at home, I'm definitely going to do it."
PERSONAL:
• Brian, and his wife Connie, were high school sweethearts and have known each other since they were 15 years old. They have a son, Brian, Jr. (8/2/96), and a daughter, Brionni (9/23/99). They also welcomed twin daughters into the world, Chonni and Ciionni, 4/26/07.
• Dawkins and his family visited the Marvel Comics headquarters in New York City in 2002 to meet with Adam Kubert and Danny Miki, the artists who draw the X-Men comics. While there, he was presented with Kubert's rendering of Dawkins as Wolverine.
• Accompanied NFL Commisoner Paul Tagliabue to Germany for World Bowl 14 in 2006 and a visit to U.S. troops stationed there
• Serves as the regional spokesman for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation
• Makes numerous speeches to church groups both in the Philadelphia area and in Florida
• Has served as a guest co-host for NFL Network's Total Access for one week in the 2005 and 2006 offseasons
• Has collected more than 200 X-Men comic books. Has over 20 Wolverine figures in his locker, many of which were sent to him by fans
• Was selected by teammates as the 2005 Eagles Man of the Year for his charitable work and was honored by the NFLPA with the Fan's Choice Award
• Participated in the NFL's Hurricane Katrina relief fund telethon in New York on 9/19/05
• Attended an exclusive NFL program at the University of Pennsylavania's Wharton Business School during the 2005 offseason
• Has donated turkey dinners to various women's shelters on Thanksgiving from 2004-06
• Partnered with Turkey Hill Dairy from 2004-06 to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. The Lancaster-based dairy donated $1,000 for every interception Dawkins made. Also in conjunction with Eagles Youth Partnership and the Eagles Book Mobile, Turkey Hill donated five cents to EYP for every package of Eagles Touchdown Sundae ice cream sold
• Has become quite the pitch-man. In addition to Turkey Hill, his clients have included print ads for Zinman Furs (with his wife Connie) and Auntie Anne's Pretzels, and a commercial for Ventresca's Men's Clothing
• Has served as the Eagles defensive insider for FOX-29's "Eagles Gameday Live" pregame show from 2004-06
• Was an all-state selection at Raines HS in Jacksonville, FL (the same school attended by former Eagles WR Harold Carmichael and current Eagles CB Lito Sheppard) and helped lead that team to 30 consecutive wins
• Also earned all-conference honors in basketball
• Was inducted into the Raines Hall of Fame in 2004
• Made a contribution to Raines HS that, among many things, helped refurbish the weight room. The facility was named the Brian Dawkins Training Complex
• Has contributed to Forest View Pop Warner in Jacksonville where he started his football career
• Joined Wolverine to drop the ceremonial first puck at a Philadelphia Phantoms (AHL) game in 2003. It was just his second hockey game ever
• "Stop, Drop, Roll, Cool and Call," that is the catch phrase of the PSA that Dawkins filmed with the Burn Prevention Foundation in 2002. The PSA was a part of a national educational video and Brian is still active with the cause

COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS:
A three-year starter at strong safety for Clemson, finished his career with 234 tackles and 11 interceptions. Was an All-ACC and a 2nd-team All-America selection as a senior when his team-high 6 INTs tied him for the conference lead. Also an outstanding special teams player, he made 35 stops on those units. Was named the first-team strong safety on Clemson's all-centennial team in 1995
INJURY HISTORY:
• Was inactive vs. Buf. (12/30/07) with a spained foot suffered at NO (12/23). Was inactive for games 3-7 due to a neck stinger suffered vs. Was. (9/17) which caused him to leave that game in the 4th quarter. Suffered a concussion in the 3rd qtr. at SF (9/24/06) that sidelined him for the remainder of the game. Was inactive vs. Cin. (1/2/05) with an illness. Suffered a Lis Franc sprain in his foot vs. TB (9/8/03) and missed nine of the next 10 games. In 2000, missed games 4-6 while recovering from an emergency appendectomy (9/19). Broke his hand at Arz. on 12/5/99, but did not miss a game. Sprained his right ankle vs. Wash. (10/11/98) and subsequently missed the next two games. Suffered a bruised fibula at Jax. (10/12/97) and missed the following week's matchup vs. Arz. Strained his groin at Ind. (12/5/96) and was sidelined for the final two regular season contests, but returned for the playoffs.
