2004 HIGHLIGHTS:
• Selected to his 3rd Pro Bowl in 2004, as he led the NFC in scoring (122 pts.) and FGs (27). His point total was the 2nd-highest total by an Eagle in a season. Also led the Eagles in special teams production points (188). His 15 consecutive FGs made during 2004 rank 2nd on the Eagles all-time list
• Named Eagles co-special teams MVP (Ike Reese), 2nd team All-Pro by the AP, and All-NFC by Pro Football Weekly in 2004
• With 17 FGs of 40 yards-or-more in 2004, set a then NFL record previously held by Ryan Longwell (2000) and Cary Blanchard (1996). His total was surpassed by the Cardinals Neil Rackers (19 in 2005). His total broke the former Eagles record set by Paul McFadden (13) in '84

• Connected on GW FG in OT during NFC Divisional playoff game vs. GB (1/11/04). Also nailed a 37-yd. FG with :05 remaining to send the game into OT
• Was 4-for-4 on FG attempts in consecutive games -vs. NO (11/23/03) & at Car. (11/30). It also marked the first back-to-back 4-FG games of his career
2002 HIGHLIGHTS:
• Earned his second consecutive Pro Bowl selection in 2002. Ranked 2nd in the NFC in scoring among kickers (3rd overall) with a career-high and team record 133 points. His 30 FGs tied a career high and tied Paul McFadden's team record
• In 2002, earned All-NFL honors from the AP, The Sporting News, College and Pro Football Weekly, and Football Digest. Also was an all-NFC selection by Pro Football Weekly
• Was a perfect 4-for-4 on second half FGs of 23, 36, 27, and 22 on a rain-soaked field at Chi. (11/4/02) fueling a 19-13 win
• Went 3-for-3 on FG attempts vs. Dal. (9/22/02), 5-for-5 on PATs and took a pitch from Koy Detmer on a fake field goal and raced 10 yds. for a first down

2001 HIGHLIGHTS:
• Earned his first career Pro Bowl berth following the 2001 season in which he tied for 5th in the NFL in scoring with 115 points. Also earned first-team all-NFL honors from the AP, Sports Illustrated, and The Sporting News
• In the NFC Divisional playoff at Chi. (1/19/02), totaled 15 points (4FGs, 3 PATs), then the 2nd highest total in NFL playoff history. Hit club record 46 yarders at Chi. and at StL (1/27/02) in the NFC Championship
• Nailed game-winning, 35-yd. FG with :07 remaining in week 16 of 2001 vs. NYG (12/30/01) as the Eagles claimed their first NFC East Division title since 1988
2000 HIGHLIGHTS:
• In his first full year as a NFL kicker, made his first 12 field goals of the season to set a team record. He also ranked 5th in the NFL in points (121) to break the team record of 116 set by Paul McFadden in 1984. The total now ranks 2nd on the Eagles list to his own 2002 total (133)
• Selected as the Eagles special teams MVP and as the first alternate to the NFC Pro Bowl squad in 2000 (behind the Bucs Martin Gramatica)
• Nailed 3 game-winning field goals in November, 2000 to earn NFC Special Teams POM honors
• In 2000 opener at Dal. (9/3) executed an onsides kick which set up the Eagles first score. Opened the 11/29/01 game at KC with another onsides kick
1999 HIGHLIGHTS:
• Earned a spot on the 53-man roster and served as the club's kickoff and long field goal specialist as 18-year vet Norm Johnson handled the regular kicking duties. He replaced an injured Johnson (back) as the primary kicker vs. Ind. (11/21)
• Played for the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe. He contracted salmonella poisoning late in the season and lost 30 pounds prior to his first training camp with the Eagles
1998 HIGHLIGHTS:
• Played in first NFL game as a Redskin vs. Sea. (9/20/98) after Scott Blanton was waived

• An avid fan of NASCAR, Akers regularly participates in sim-racing on his computer against the likes of professional drivers Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Denny Hamlin, and Martin Truex, Jr. on dmp-racing.com and brrl.net. "I will spend three or four hours some nights learning to race with the guys on the DMP racing league. I have learned a lot about sim-racing and I have to thank Dale, Jr. and the boys at DMP." Akers has a custom-painted Eagles car by Dale, Jr., and truck by Vincent Cimorelli that he races online
• A regular visitor to the pits and garages at NASCAR races, Akers aspires one day to own and/or drive in a lower level NASCAR circuit
• Founded in 2001, Akers' Kicks for Kids foundation benefits The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. "David's Locker" program directly assists families with any needs while their child is being treated at the hospital. In addition, KFK impacts The Little Rock Resource Center at CHOP, which funds programs to help the blind and visually impaired. • During the offseason, Akers trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Shaolin Kempo under the guidance of Allan Manganello at the Shaolin Kempo Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Louisville and at Maxercise in Philadelphia. Said Akers: "The martial arts influence is the part where you don't think about [the kick]. You've trained yourself so much to where you go and just do it. Same thing in a fight. You prepare for that one instance where someone is coming at you, and you're not trying to think."
• Was voted by fans as the starting kicker on the Eagles 75th Anniversary Team.
PERSONAL:
• He and his wife, Erika, gave birth to their second son, Sawyer Jett, on 4/27/08. Sawyer was 8lbs. 15oz. and 21 in. long at birth. The family resides in Medford, NJ, with their other children, son, Luke, and daughter, Halley Noel
• Attended Tates Creek HS in Lexington, KY, where he was twice named first-team all-state as a kicker and once as a punter with a 40.7 avg.
