A four-year letterman at Auburn, appeared in 48 career games (20 starts) during his collegiate career. His best season came as a junior in 2006, as he was the starting left tackle for an offense that averaged 320.9 yards per game.

- Has a son, King VI, and a daughter, Kayla
- Is the son of King Dunlap IV, a defensive tackle at Tennessee State and a 5th round draft choice of the Baltimore Colts in 1969, and Robin Dunlap, a former track star at Tennessee State
- Has a younger brother, George, and a younger sister, Victoria, a starting forward on the Kentucky women's basketball team and a member of the Wildcats track team, competing in the high jump
- A two-way lineman at Brentwood Academy, was an all-state selection as a senior and named the Tennessee Mr. Football lineman of the year for Division II-AAA. Helped lead Brentwood to the Division II, class 3A championship game as a senior
