A sixth-round pick of the Eagles in 2008 out of Wheaton College, Studebaker was a division III All-American and became the first player in Wheaton history to be selected in the NFL draft. Studebaker registered 30 sacks in his 4-year career including a school record and NCAA-best 17.5 in his junior season. He signed to the practice squad on 9/1.
BIRDSEED:
- First player in Wheaton history to be selected in the NFL draft during the modern era. Prior to Studebaker, 10 players have signed NFL contracts, but none has ever played in a regular-season NFL game during the modern era.
- Coming from the small town of Eureka, IL, Studebaker was overlooked by Division I programs, and chose to attend the local Wheaton College. After dominating at the Division III level, he then drew interest from top-notch schools around the country, but chose to honor his commitment to the Wheaton program, and to this day has no regrets about his decision. "I felt connected to the team and to the coaches," said Studebaker. "I believed in what Wheaton stood for, which is being a man of integrity. My coach taught me to surround myself with the people I wanted to be like. If I was driven by playing in front of big crowds or playing for a big-name school, then I would be playing for the wrong reasons."
- Is proud to be a part of the same family who invented the original Studebaker vehicles. "I'm not exactly sure how we're related, but it's the same family. Those are some pretty good cars!"
PERSONAL:
- Four-year letter winner and first-team all-conference tight end and a unanimous pick at defensive end in 2003. Also a member of the basketball and track teams
- Would like to pursue graduate work in physical therapy after his playing days are over
- Is the youngest of five kids. Has two brothers, Ben and Dan, and two sisters, Becky and Rachel. Dan is one year older than Andy and also played collegiately at Wheaton
- His first job was bailing hay during summers on farms in his hometown of Eureka, IL. He also worked unloading office furniture and installing it. "Those were some long days. Going from that to working out and training for football was exhausting, but it taught me discipline and prepared me for life in college and the NFL."
COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS:
A Division III All-American, and the first player in Wheaton history to be selected in the NFL draft, registered 30 sacks in his 4-year career including a school record and NCAA-best 17.5 in his junior season. He also registered 55 tackles, 24.5 TFLs, and 19 QB hurries in 2006. As a sophomore in 2005, earned first-team all-conference honors after recording 7.5 sacks and 19.5 TFLs.
