WR Maclin All Good After Scare

Posted Aug 21, 2014

For a minute or two, everyone thought the worst. When Jeremy Maclin fell to the ground mid-route in the second quarter, without being contacted by a defender, Maclin’s teammates, the attendees at Lincoln Financial Field and the Eagles fans watching on television all feared that the returning wide receiver had been injured seriously again. Even Maclin himself was scared.

“Yeah, absolutely,” Maclin said after the game. “It was just an awkward fall. It was very similar to kind of what I did last year with the knee going straight in the ground like that. But I think what that was was just reassurance that everything’ intact and everything’s fine.”

Maclin’s teammates, knowing not only what Maclin means to the offense but also how hard he’s rehabbed to return, all worried as well.

“He can’t keep doing that to me, man,” said wide receiver Riley Cooper. “Oh my goodness. The worst thoughts went through your head when it happened. I saw him grab his knee and I felt just terrible for him. I got a knot and thought, ‘This can’t be happening.’ I went over there and started talking to him and he got up smiling and I went, ‘Good, my boy’s all right.’”

“I was freaking out, kind of,” said center Jason Kelce. “The first thing you think of obviously, or the first thing I thought of was, ‘Aw, man, I hope it isn’t another torn ACL.’ But luckily he was out there the next drive and that was definitely a good feeling to have.”

Indeed, after a moment to evaluate the situation, Maclin and the team’s doctors realized that he would be fine. Maclin then reentered the game on the next drive, catching a pass to boot. On the night, he finished with a team-high six catches for 43 yards.

“There’s no reason to go out there and play scared. Coming off of injury, being my contact year again, I’m not going to play like that,” Maclin said. “I remember (the trainers) telling me a story about (former Eagles center) Jamaal Jackson when he was coming back from his ACL. He had something happen in camp where he got rolled up in the back and at first he was shook a little bit and after that, everything just kind of took off for him.”
