Following that disclosure, both Vick and Foles explained that the decision means little at this juncture.
"I'm just going to go out there and play," Foles said. "I'm playing to win. I'm playing to put points on the board. That's what we have to do to be successful. Being a good teammate, when the defense is out there, I'm going to be cheering them on and when we're out there, I'll expect to score. That's my mindset always."
Vick echoed those words, saying that he would still play the same way whether he is taking snaps with the first, second, or even third team.
"We haven't even thought that far (ahead)," Vick said. "For me, at the end of the day, it's just playing football and regardless of who you're out there with, you need to be at your best and you've got to bring the best out of them, and that's what I look forward to doing on Friday night, and that's what has to happen."
Both quarterbacks also had similar feelings about their individual progression in Coach Kelly’s system. Vick and Foles say that they continue to get better every day and that there is always room for improvement both personally and as a team.
"I've felt like I'm getting a little bit better every day," Foles explained. "I feel like I'm learning more, we're repping the plays more, and especially going against someone else, different scenarios we do in our normal practices, I feel like I'm getting better every day. I'm working on different things every day, I feel like I'm really focusing on something like if I messed up on a play the day before, if I get that the next day, I know what to look for and maybe I'm able to add in a pump fake and it'll open something else. Just studying the practice film and going out on the practice field and really trying to become a better player every day. "
"I feel good about where I'm at," Vick said. "I know I still have to continue to work hard. You can never get complacent in this game. There are always things to work on. Every practice, regardless of how good it may seem, you can always find errors and mistakes that can be corrected. So I just try to look for the things that I can get better at."
Whether it’s Foles or Vick under center to start things off against New England on Friday night, both players know that they need to continue to battle everyday in camp. Battling, though, does not preclude being a good teammate.
"I just need to keep playing good football," Vick said. "That's it. You can find yourself in situations where one game can make a difference, so it really finalizes the situation, as far as results and what you're looking for. I think Coach (Kelly) has gone about this whole situation with the right mindset, and we respect it. We're just going to keep battling every day in practice and keep competing.
"In my mind there's no statement in who comes out first," Foles said. "If it's me, I know Mike's going to be there cheering me on. If it's Mike, I'm going to be right there cheering him on and trying to help him in any way possible. We're all on the same page, we're pushing each other every day in practice to become better players but we're also being great teammates to one another out of the locker room and in the locker room. That's really important. It's been a good experience for both of us."
